Audi announces the time of the new RS3 around the Nürburgring, and it is obviously progressing, compared to the last performance of the VW group in terms of compact on the big loop. The 7 minutes and 54 seconds of the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S (not sold in France, let us remember) are only a distant memory since the new RS3 completed the lap in 7: 40.768.
According to Audi, this makes the RS3 the best compact in the world on this circuit. Truly ? Looking at the times, we realize that the Renault Mégane RS Trophy R did better with a time of 7: 40.100. Admittedly, the Mégane was a limited production, but it is indeed classified among the compacts.
Audi does not specify, in its press release, if it is on the 20.6 or 20.8 km, but the answer is in fact given by the organization of the circuit: the RS3 does indeed have the record, with 7: 35.522 on the “short” version, ie 4.6 seconds better than the time of the Mégane.

In any case, we can now hardly blame the presence of semi-slicks on the French car since the new RS3 now officially includes, as an option, these mounts in the catalog. Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R also used on this record attempt. The driver Frank Stippler also underlined the significant gain in agility brought by the famous “Torque Splitter” of the RS3, which ultimately looks a lot like what we find at the rear of the new VW Golf R.
