Yes, yes, remember. There was a crazy time when over several hectares, hundreds of new cars were exhibited in Paris during a truly mind-blowing event: the Paris Motor Show.

Even stronger, more than a million people flocked there each time it took place, every two years since 1978. And these visitors had the opportunity to test drive the models they coveted. Yes, in the capital.

This huge event was of global importance, with almost every manufacturer on the planet exhibiting their latest creations. The press took advantage of this, the Auto-Journal, to name but one, releasing an exceptional “Special Salon” issue every year. He has even preserved this judicious tradition. Crazy, right? The last of these ecological monstrosities took place in 2018, and if a World Cup is announced for 2022, it is not known what form it will take.

Opel Corsa Opel Corsa
Ford Sierra Ford Sierra

Forty years ago, a rather memorable edition of the auto show was held, as it was then called. Indeed, in 1982, a flurry of capital innovations crackled: Audi 100 C3, Citroën BX, Ford Sierra, Opel Corsa… All of them were produced in at least one million copies!

Peugeot 505 TurboPeugeot 505 Turbo

And that’s not counting the arrival of new versions of already existing models: MG Metro, Peugeot 505 Turbo, Porsche 911 Cabriolet, VW Golf GTD, VW Polo Coupé… A very important show therefore, knowing that at the time, manufacturers were less numerous than now, and their ranges most often infinitely less rich. That said, BMW and Mercedes shunned the Paris meeting to present their 3 Series E30 and 190, presented later in 1982.

As a result, there was an impressive crowd at the Porte de Versailles, where as a kid, I went with my car-loving father, without however reaching the pathological degree of yours truly.

The subway ride seemed endless, so much the impatience to find myself at the show twisted my guts. On site, the novelties were difficult to approach, but no matter, with beating heart, I had entered the holy of holies. I don’t know if I managed to settle in the Ford and the Opel, but I managed to approach, even touch the Audi.

Audi 100Audi 100

The 100, as I mentioned in a previous night’s Route, marked its era by relaunching the fashion for aerodynamics: that was all we talked about. Obviously, its incredible body made me dream. I remember I couldn’t help but reach out my hand to open the German door. Except that it was not that of a copy intended for the public but indeed of the demonstrator exposed on a podium protected by a barrier, all visible entrails, which we had, of course, strictly not the right to touch. It’s very bad.

Mixed in with the crowd surrounding the podium, apparently no one saw me… Especially since we then went to the test center without incident, where my father was able to take control of a 100 CD 5E in gray metal with black interior. . At the rear, I found the huge and bright passenger compartment nice. My father, he did not appreciate banging his head on the central upright, very inclined, of the German. Nor his engine, which he considered “rough” as he told me. Anyway, she was too expensive for him.

Citroen BXCitroen BX

Then the BX. The BX! This station wagon, long considered the embodiment of Beaufesque old-fashionedness, has become a star of youngtimers. And when it was released, it made a strong impression. Already, because at the time, any new Citroën that came out was an event in itself. Then, because of its divisive but considered very modern look, even if the Audi 100 suggested to many observers that the Double chevron could have gone further.

But the car was full of qualities, as we were able to realize, father and son, after going to the Citroën test center. A red 16 TRS with a brown interior was waiting for us which, indeed, was quite surprisingly comfortable. We were good in this car!

The salesman, a peaceful bespectacled fifties sporting a beard like a history-geo teacher, was less pleased with my father’s acerbic remarks concerning the finish of the Citroën, “in zigouigouis”. And it is true that the adjustments seemed very approximate. Nevertheless, the car was solid.

While we had stopped for the sales representative to present the car, I decided to close the tailgate after a while, thinking that we were going to leave. It was much lighter than I had imagined, and I slammed it with a force that surprised even me. Bam! At the time, I thought I had broken something, but the BX had remained intact. Which didn’t prevent two glares from staring sternly at my innocent head… My father didn’t buy the BX.

Fiat ArgentaFiat Argenta

Nor the Fiat Argenta 2000 ie that we tested shortly after. Why such an unlikely car? Because my father then owned a 132, of which the Argenta was a deep evolution. I remember very well the visit to the Fiat test center at Porte Dauphine. Especially when a customer went to test a red Ritmo Abarth 125 TC with a salesman.

The latter, at the wheel, started with a bang, engine screaming, front wheels in agony, crossing the square like a madman in the middle of traffic. I saw the prospect’s head hit the headrest when the Ritmo took off. There was talk in the stand, where I was then given an orange juice and above all… Someone pats me on the shoulder, I turn around, and a charming hostess offers me a miniature 132, signed Mercury. There, like that, without warning. Divine surprise!

I who was crazy about small cars, I had trouble believing my eyes! I even wondered for a moment if I had to pay it. As for the Argenta, a burgundy brown interior in which we drove, I found it very comfortable. “She’s better than I imagined,” I tell my father. “Well, I found it less good,” he retorted. He didn’t buy it either.

It was late in the day. We returned to the living room in a Fiat shuttle (a 900 E, but I’m not quite sure anymore) then took the metro back to pick up the family 2CV (a 1965 Azam, if you’re interested) at the other end of the Paris in order to return home, to Seine-et-Marne. Obviously, I was a little sad, despite the few leaflets I had gleaned, and especially the 132 miniature that had fallen from the heavens. We would have to wait two long years to relive the dream of the Paris salon!

A dream that must have been shared by thousands of kids like me, because at the time, cars were… good! No one thought of reducing its place in society, and even less of excessively hindering its use. Everyone wanted theirs, the specialized press prospered, the French were passionate about the “GTIs” of which they were to become the biggest European consumers. We even asked President François Mitterrand which car he would choose for this show:

“Mr. President, as a consumer, what would be the car you would buy at the end of this show?

– I would have a very serious hesitation because those are the shape of the car, others are its power, others are low fuel consumption, another is also its colour. All this tempts me, successively. It’s like life but I won’t tell you what I do. For now, I’m driving around in my duties as President of the Republic with a car that I really like, which is a good Renault 30, but I’m not doing any advertising. »

François Mitterrand François Mitterrand “receiving” the Super 5 at the Elysée.

He was even going to praise the merits of the Supercinq in 1984, showing himself at the wheel of the youngest of the Régie in the courtyard of the Elysée. Could we imagine Emmanuel Macron testing a novelty in this way? No, by the way, he didn’t in 2018, and no one asked him what he would like to buy.

The Paris Motor Show was a high mass of the automobile, just like Geneva in Switzerland and Frankfurt in Germany. All these salons have disappeared, at least in the form we knew them, and it cannot be said that Munich, which replaced Frankfurt, met with great success. Everything changes…

It’s the rule: Netflix never delivers its audience scores. However, there are a few clues to know if an in-house production was successful or not. The most important of them is its renewal in the form of a 2nd episode and if the success of the first opus is really enormous, this sequel will be entitled to a larger budget. This is obviously the case with this Lost bullet broadcast in 2020 and whose sequel tumbles the balloons on November 10.

And mix Taxi and Fast and Furious

For those who don’t know, Balle Perdue is a French film written and directed by Guillaume Pierret for Netflix. The Platform, like the director, doubting nothing, thought that the Renault 21 Turbo could become, in France, as famous as the Nissan Skyline from Fast & Furious. Not less. There was indeed the Peugeot 406 from the Taxi franchise, so why not? As a result, the fine team went to recruit a few heavyweight actors, such as Alban Lenoir (seen in Kaamelott), Nicolas Duvauchelle (who is more used to auteur films) or Ramzy Bedia (by Eric and Ramzy) .

When the R21 becomes a cinematic legend. When the R21 becomes a cinematic legend.

The work is more guided by the obsession with the all-out fluff and the good big waterfall than by the contemplative sequence shot. We are not at Godard. But unlike the Taxi series, which tried despite everything to play derision, even the self-derision of the genre, Lost ball remains very first degree and its humor comes down to a good big chestnut of 220 V able to defeat a Percheron and that the hero cash without flinching under the laughter of his colleagues.

Besides, all these little people kept smiling by observing the good results of the first opus and wanted to engage in a second part. The troupe has withered somewhat since Nicolas Duvauchelle and Ramzy Bédia withdrew, but Guillaume Pierret is still behind the camera and Alban Lenoir is still the hero, oddly battered by the life and the punches of his enemies. It is moreover almost as damaged as the red Renault 21 Turbo with a ram’s bull bar which is also repeating this Lost ball 2. The budget of the case being more substantial, the stunts are more extraordinary and the stuffing more spectacular.

Alban Lenoir (Lino) is not happy at all.Alban Lenoir (Lino) is not happy at all.

Netflix has scheduled the start of the broadcast of episode 2 on November 10, but to keep fans waiting, the platform has offered itself a stand at the Mondial de l’auto and on Tuesday, the famous R21, the real one from true we are promised, waiting for them in hall 3.

Caradisiac, partner of the Paris Motor Show

As in 2018, Caradisiac is once again a partner in 2022 of the Mondial de l’Auto which will take place in Paris from October 17 to 23. The Caradisiac editorial team will thus be relocated to its own stand for the duration of the show to analyze, dissect, photograph and film all the new models. And this will of course also be an opportunity for you to come, as you are used to, to meet our journalists. Which new or used car to buy? They will answer all your questions. Until then, we will give you on Caradisiac all the information that we could have obtained from the manufacturers on their new models.

Exclusive video presentation – Honda Civic Type R (2023): wiser and more extreme at the same time

A surprise which is not a disappointment for all that and which turns out to be very logical. Because the basic Honda Civic 11, which in fact only exists with a single 184 hp e-HEV hybrid engine, has already calmed things down when it appeared at the start of the summer. Gone are the Grendizer extravaganzas of earlier versions. Here everything is only calm and sobriety. And the same goes for its vitaminized version.

On the left, the necessarily red Type R and on the right, the classic Honda Civic 11. Look for aesthetic differences. On the left, the necessarily red Type R and on the right, the classic Honda Civic 11. Look for aesthetic differences.

However, for a Type R to inherit this name, which turns 25 this year as the classic Civic turns 50, it must be recognizable at first glance. How ? Mainly through its imposing black spoiler which blocks the view of the driver in the middle of a maneuver. But that was before rear view cameras. Except that even that fin has shrunk. But it was solidified by the addition of two aluminum racks. Aluminum that is also found on the 19-inch rims. It is also from this alloy that the front bonnet is heated, pierced in its center with a large aerator.

Specific shields and three exhaust outlets

These few appendages would not be enough for a Type R worthy of the name. The car has been lowered somewhat, and the front bumper, black and glossy, has been completely redesigned. Same punishment at the rear, or the specific shield, and always black, is adorned in its center with three exhaust outlets. It’s a detail, but worshipers of the Type R cult will recognize it at first glance: the big exit is now in the center, surrounded by two smaller ones.

Red in the front seats...Red in the front seats…
… as in the rear seats. … as in the rear seats.

But let’s leave these in-house modifications to see what Honda designers have done in the cabin. Again, nothing flashy awaits the driver and his passengers. Unless you hate the color red. Because scarlet is making a comeback. Previous generations tended to hide it, but on this one, you can find it absolutely everywhere, from floor mats to seat belts to seats. The latter are particularly well made, in synthetic suede (and not, in Alcantara). They are both firm with great support like bucket seats, while being comfortable like living room reading lights. Because this Type R wants to be more versatile than ever, and able to go shopping, and from time to time, to race, thanks to its 6-speed manual gearbox that we are promised better staged than ever.

A very classic dashboard and above all very similar to the basic version.A very classic dashboard and above all very similar to the basic version.

Still in the passenger compartment, in front of the driver, we find the two panels of the “classic” Civic 11. The first screen takes up the traditional counters, and the second, 9 inches, the infotainment elements, but also the data capable of delighting sports enthusiasts since we find the different temperatures and the boost pressure. Data accessible when changing driving mode which can switch from the “comfort” position to the “sport” mode or even, and this is a novelty, by switching to the Type R mode which happily wakes up the three output organs exhaust with a nice sound.

The black spoiler still sits on the tailgate of the Type R. The black spoiler still sits on the tailgate of the Type R.

In the rear seats, the passengers, who are only two in number since the car is a four-seater, and no longer a five-seater family like the basic version, will also be entitled to red seat belts. However, the legroom reserved for them is not exceptional, especially for a 4.55 m car closer to the large sedans of the D segment than to the compacts. But if they can’t extend their legs, they can at least take care of suitcases and fill the trunk with the very honorable capacity of 410 l.

4.55 m long, the Civic is not the most livable compact on the market.4.55 m long, the Civic is not the most livable compact on the market.

A large boot, versatility and comfort are useful, but the Type R is first and foremost an engine. Except that we don’t know much about the latter. Only certainty: it is the same block that fitted the previous model. We therefore find the 2 l Turbo of 320 hp. Hand on heart, we were sworn and promised that it will be more powerful. How many horses? Mystery. In addition, a Honda executive explained to us that this version will be less malused than the previous one and will therefore emit less C02. How ? Double mystery. The only answer that our interlocutor was kind enough to give us is not likely to enlighten us since he was content to explain to us laconically that “Honda is a good engine manufacturer”. Thanks for the info.

The mysteries will be solved at the end of November

So there remains a mechanical mystery and a pricing mystery. Because the new Type R cannot be low cost, since the basic model is already displayed around 30,000 euros. But to lift the veil on all these questions, and the penalty that will inevitably increase the bill, it will be necessary to wait until the very last days of November and the tests of this car where we will finally know everything about the last Type R which will most likely, according to Honda, be the very last in the history of the brand.

From the first model to the 11th generation, 50 years of Civic look down on you. From the first model to the 11th generation, 50 years of Civic look down on you.

BMW has just lifted the veil on its new generation M2, a real M4 Coupé in reduction. The ultra-sporty compact coupe from the brand with the propeller surprised everyone with its design, very different in detail from that of recent models in the range. It displays as it should a muscular silhouette with widened fenders, but above all it sports a front end with slightly confusing square details.

Difficult to go further than that in aggressivenessDifficult to go further than that in aggressiveness

This M2 already does not lack air in its normal version, especially since it develops 460 horsepower via its 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder (39 more than the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder of a Mercedes -AMG A45 S and 60 more than the 2.5-litre 5-cylinder in the Audi RS 3). But as for the M4, BMW will market a kit of “Performance Parts” including body parts much more radical still.

Inside, the M2 with parts Inside, the M2 equipped with “Performance Parts” can still be equipped with a manual gearbox

Big fixed spoiler and monstrous tailpipes

As you can see in the images, the M2 equipped with these elements seems to have come straight from a tuner’s workshop. It receives even more aggressive shields, specific rims, numerous aerodynamic deflectors and a large fixed spoiler. The icing on the cake, the large quad exhaust outlets would make a Honda Civic Type R look like a peaceful rental wagon. For the moment, we do not know the price of these spectacular elements.

Last week, we mentioned in this section a major auction of rare Peugeots and Citroëns which will take place on Sunday, October 23.

But before that, fans of exceptional vehicles will be interested in the traditional Automobile sur les champs auction that Artcurial is organizing at its headquarters, namely the Hôtel Marcel Dassault located on the Rond-point des Champs-Elysées.

Automobile on the Champs: the round of wonders

83 cars will be presented, including a third without reserve price, and will be added to this 16 Automobilia lots, including a damaged Ferrari F50 bonnet estimated between 8 and 12,000 € (!).

Automobile on the Champs: the round of wonders

Automobile on the Champs: the round of wonders

Several cars also caught our attention, first and foremost the 1969 Lamborghini Miura S which is the highlight of the sale and which you can discover in the video above.

This has belonged to the same owner since 1974, the year since which it has covered only 52,000 km. Even if it is now a little faded, one can imagine that it will easily reach its estimate of between 900,000 and 1.4 million euros.

Automobile on the Champs: the round of wonders

Another mythical Italian is this Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona by Scaglietti manufactured in 1974. Above all, this is one of the 8 to have this “verde medio metallizzato” livery (out of 1,406 cars produced). Another distinctive feature is a “testa di morro” leather interior, with brown leather seats with black stripes. Here again, the threshold of €650-850,000 estimated by Artcurial should be reached quickly.

Automobile on the Champs: the round of wonders

A batch of 9 Renaults will also go under the hammer, including a rare Avantime V6 (only 8,557 units of the “coupespace” were produced) whose odometer only shows 8,290 km! Estimate of between €20 and €35,000 for this vehicle, the price of which will rise in the future.

Let’s also mention this 1995 Clio Williams showing 31,000 km (25 to 45,000 € according to Artcurial), or even this Safrane Biturbo – 806 units produced – which could reach a sum of between 20 and 30,000 €.

On the youngtimers side, there is this very desirable (perfect color, perfect rims) BMW 325 iX Touring, in the same family since 1991. 126,000 km on the clock, for an estimate between 25 and 35,000 €. Or even this 1992 Fiat Panda 4×4, whose two successive owners have only covered 62,000 km at the wheel. Estimate: €10 to €15,000. A bit optimistic, perhaps?

Finally, a “Car&Coffee” organized on Sunday morning between 9 and 11 a.m. at the Artcurial private garage, accessible via 59 avenue Montaigne. If you have found gasoline, an appointment not to be missed to approach the marvels that will be offered for sale from 4 p.m.

Reported by our colleagues fromEurope 1 and of 20 Minutes, the case is surprising. It dates back to September 15, when two gendarmes in Seine-et-Marne intercepted a Peugeot 2008 reported stolen in their file. On board the French SUV, they found two men in possession of a small portable sound speaker from the JBL brand, without paying attention to it.

But while inspecting the phone of one of the two people apprehended in the stolen 2008, they noticed pictures mentioning the JBL speaker in a funny way. One of the images displayed the comment “it starts at JBL, does it? “. By doing some research on the Internet, they are then on the video visible below by making the connection with the object found in the car. It is presumably a new technique of theft via one of these objects, connected via a USB cable to the car’s on-board computer.

Sold on the Internet 5000€

According to our colleagues and research by the gendarmerie, some hackers have succeeded in modifying the JBL speaker in question to use it as a starter key for vehicles of the Toyota and Lexus brands (in the video above, the technique works on a Toyota C-HR). The device in question would sell for around €5,000 on some disreputable sites. However, it is not known how the Peugeot 2008 in which the two people were intercepted was stolen.

While the agreement on wages concluded last night between the management and two majority unions (CFE-CGC and CFDT) of TotalEnergies, in addition to the rejection by the courts of the summary procedure of the CGT to contest the requisition by the government of personnel refineries – the administrative court having ruled that these measures did not constitute “a serious and manifestly illegal attack on the fundamental freedom constituted by the right to strike” – gives hope for a way out of the crisis, a return to normal in service stations is not expected for several days.

The shortage of fuels, at first, continues.

According to the figures delivered by Agnès Pannier-Runacher, the Minister for Energy Transition, this Friday at midday, 28.5% of the stations (compared to 29.1% yesterday at the end of the day) are “out of stock at least one product. But the situation varies greatly from one region to another, and some are much more affected.

There are places where it would have even gotten worse, such as in the Centre-Val-de-Loire where 42.2% of the stations (against 41.2% on Thursday) are in difficulty today. Conversely, in Île-de-France, it is a little better, with 37% of stations impacted, against 38.8% the day before.

In such a context, the risk of breaking down is therefore increased. And if so, this poses several problems…

The parking problem

Even if one can imagine, given the news, that “messages of tolerance have been passed by our authorities, underlines Jean-Baptiste le Dall, the fact remains that one cannot leave his vehicle immobilized anywhere. »

The first advice, in the event of a breakdown, of the lawyer specializing in road law, is to “report it”, via a message left prominently on the dashboard, behind the windshield, with writing for example “Broken down” or “Out of gas”.

He recalls that depending on the situation, owners who have been forced to leave their vehicle incorrectly parked can be fined for:

inconvenient parking (fine of 35 euros), such as in places reserved for deliveries, very inconvenient parking (fine of 135 euros), such as on strips and cycle paths, places reserved for the disabled, dangerous parking (fine of 135 euros), in which the loss of three points and even the suspension of his driving license can be incurred!

“It’s for example when you stop in the middle of the road because there is no escape route like for works – bridges, tunnels…”, he explains.

If, as a general rule, to challenge this type of verbalization, the blow of the case of force majeure for this reason – the breakdown of gasoline – is difficult to accept in court, since it is generally foreseeable, there, the argument seems to him already much more valid than in normal times.

It remains to think about being able to demonstrate it later… Because a report is authentic “until proof to the contrary”, we can never repeat it enough, and this proof to the contrary can be reported in writing or witnesses.

In this case, in this case, “the best thing is to collect testimonies, recognizes Maître le Dall. If you have at least one, that’s not bad enough, and if you don’t, take pictures of the situation of your vehicle, of the fuel gauge warning light on your dashboard… In short, anything that can help you allowing yourself to be justified is good to take, ”he insists.

The special case of breakdowns on motorways

On the motorway, on the other hand, it gets complicated, because, even in the event of force majeure, there is no possibility of leaving your vehicle parked on the hard shoulder (BAU).

Besides, parking on it is only possible anyway “in case of absolute necessity”, stipulates the article R421-7 of the Highway Code.

Otherwise, it is a PV at 35 euros that can be drawn up, and above all it is the pound almost assured.

And if the BAU is used, in case of force majeure, there is no choice but to call a repairman. A licensed convenience store at regulated prices.

For light vehicles weighing less than or equal to 1.8 tonnes, there is then for 138.01 euros, according to the latest rates in force, and 170.65 euros for other light vehicles, less than 3.5 tonnes. But if the breakdown service occurs at night or between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m., on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, these prices are increased by 50%.

Only here, at the moment, apart from this particular case of motorways, even if we manage to park correctly, the fuel shortage will remain very difficult to manage at a lower cost…

The problem of prohibited cans/jerricans

In order to deal with the current difficulties in supplying fuel at service stations, measures to regulate the sale of fuel were decided this week.

Since last weekend, more and more prefectures have taken orders to prohibit in the department “the sale and purchase of fuels (gasoline, ethanol, diesel, LPG) in manually transportable containers”. In other words, in jerrycans or drums.

The objective is to limit “precautionary storage, resulting in higher consumption than usual”. Storages that add scarcity to scarcity, authorities say.

In form, these decrees are a bit of nonsense.

There are some that provide for some exemptions, such as in Mosellewhere this prohibition is applicable except to “professionals in the maintenance of green spaces”.

In Pas-de-Calaisit is “unless there is a need duly justified by the customer”, without further details.

In Haute-Savoiethe prefectoral decree makes no reservations and the ban, it seems, is general and strict.

Restrictions until when?

There too, it is the great vagueness.

Orders are sometimes taken for a week or at least until Monday, October 17 at noon. Sometimes it just says the ban is in effect “until further notice” like in Essonne.

In the Vosgesit is a priori over, with a ban which was decided from October 8 to 12.

In short, on this point too, there is everything…

Which departments?

As the measure is not national, it all depends on whether the prefect of the department has taken this kind of decree according to the local situation.

In bulk, apart from the departments already mentioned, this type of ban affects Bouches-du-Rhône, Tarn-et-Garonne, Puy-de-Dôme, Marne, Cantal, Haute-Loire, Savoie , the Meuse… This affects various parts of the territory.

The risks of breaking this temporary rule?

Jean-Baptiste le Dall specifies that since this year, there have been changes in this area because “we have gone from a 1st to 2nd class fine, that is from 11 to 35 euros”. That is what applies in the event of violation of an order, in general.

But beware, warns the Parisian lawyer, these developments do not stop there! ” A new article of the Penal Code provides for a fine of 135 euros [contravention de 4ème classe, ndlr] as far as it concerns what regulates “the transport of containers containing fuel”. »

It can be added that, for its part, article R411-18 of the Highway Code provides that decrees “may prohibit or regulate the circulation of vehicles transporting dangerous materials”, including fuels, and that in this case , the fine incurred is also 135 euros.

Even before breaking down, if a driver succeeds in filling a jerrycan, the risk of being fined continues as long as his trip is not over!

Regulations on the transport and storage of fuels?

We have heard a lot of things in recent days on the subject. Sometimes discordant information so that it was not easy to navigate.

It must be recognized that the regulations relating to the transport of dangerous materials (TDG), in particular by virtue of the European Agreement relating to the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road – the so-called ADR Agreement -, are quite dense.

It would seem all the same that the ADR provides for exemptions for individuals precisely, and the transport of liquid fuels.

The rule would then be this : “A maximum of 60 liters per transport unit may be transported in portable fuel containers”.

Finally, for the storage of petroleum products at home, here is what is prescribed by a decree of 2004 : “Only closed transportable containers with a unit capacity not exceeding 50 liters and a total capacity of less than 120 liters per floor, for the same family or for the same company, are authorized”.

Caradisiac: Going from an almost 100% thermal fleet to a 100% electric fleet. How did you prepare your employees for this radical change?

Cyril Châtelet, Sales and Marketing Director of LeasePlan France: On the one hand, we spent a lot of time communicating with our employees, with the aim of being transparent about what is expected. On the other hand, we set up a test phase, which was essential for us, giving them the opportunity to try out different types of electric vehicles for at least a week to be able to get used to the technology and then determine what would be their choice when they have to. We also discussed with them all the possible charging solutions, at work and at home. And for the home, each case is a case. At the same time, we have made sure to have a car policy that is rather flattering. In particular, we have made every effort to ensure that, in each of the 5 vehicle segments represented, there are both more or less significant autonomy (between 200 and 600 km per charge), models and different levels of equipment. , as well as different brands (French and foreign), so that each employee can choose their vehicle according to their professional and private use.

Caradisiac: Is this “zero emission” bias important in terms of image vis-à-vis customers?

Cyril Châtelet: Yes, absolutely. In this case, now we know what we are talking about because we have experienced it ourselves. We are able to go see a company and explain to it in detail what are the different stages through which we have gone and the stages through which we can invite them to go through. At the same time, when our teams go to customers (and even if we do not consider 100% electric as a dogma because the uses can be different) and the discussion revolves around electricity, they can then talk about it very freely with the customers, because they now experience it on a daily basis. They are able to tell, depending on their region, which types of terminals work better than others, which ones cost more than others and, depending on the use, which type of vehicle is better to choose. In the end, this expertise makes it possible to be even more pragmatic in the consulting phase.

Caradisiac: Have you definitely closed the door to thermals?

Cyril Châtelet: In fact, for the moment at LeasePlan France, we only have 13 cars that will remain in combustion (Editor’s note: in reality in hybrid). This remains a transitional phase for some big riders who were not yet ready. Conversely, other large rollers have already decided to switch to 100% electric. In fact, you have to raise the questions of anxiety, and the way to do that is really to be as agile as possible. That is to say without constraining, but rather by opening the field of possibilities, then reducing it once we have been able to test. In this case, we do not put people in the same dynamic. This is the approach we have chosen to adopt.

Caradisiac: To date, 62 charging stations have been installed at the LeasePlan France headquarters in Rueil-Malmaison. At the same time, 75 terminals have just been integrated into homes. Was this provision made at the same rate as car deliveries?

Cyril Châtelet: We realized, through experience, that the question of the terminal would come almost before the choice of vehicle. On the other hand, if the terminal is installed too early, you sometimes start paying for the subscription (Editor’s note: LeasePlan France has chosen a subscription formula) before the vehicle is there. It is therefore not easy to synchronize, a fortiori in the current context of late deliveries. Most vehicles tend to be late, but sometimes also, on the contrary, they can arrive a little earlier than expected… So what we did was to try to stick as accurately as possible , by relying in particular, when the vehicle is delivered before the terminal, on our charging solutions at the office as well as on the implementation of our roaming charging cards.

Caradisiac: Financially, is switching to 100% electric a profitable investment?

Cyril Châtelet: Yes, it costs us less than renewing the thermal fleet, for tax reasons and benefits in kind in particular, but that’s not what determined our choice. The choice, in fact, was guided by our company policy (Editor’s note: of the LeasePlan group) and by the desire to strengthen our message and our credibility with our customers. By the way, we have set up questionnaires for our customers regarding the correct definition of their car policy. At the same time, we are working on multi-energy cards and we are going to launch a solution that allows us to integrate the charging station into our offers, so that it is as smooth as possible for them.

With 122,700 vehicle thefts recorded in France in 2021 (official figures from the Ministry of the Interior), the overall balance of the number of stolen vehicles in France is showing a certain stability. Figures that echo the steady decline recorded since 2008, with the number of vehicle thefts almost halved.

According to the figures of the group of insurers Argos, relating to the data for 2021 transmitted by the insurers (60,000 thefts), only 38% of the vehicles stolen in France have been found. 57% were during the first month following the theft, and 30% during the first week.

Among the most appetizing vehicles in the eyes of thieves are the Clio IV, the Peugeot 3008 II and the Peugeot 208. If we take into account their number in circulation and their number/theft ratio, these are the DS7 Crossback, the Range Rover IV, the Range Rover Sport and the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 which are the most targeted vehicles.

Finally, as for the location of the thefts, one in five vehicles stolen in France is in the Bouches du Rhône, Paris or in the North. According to the group of insurers Argos, these three departments alone concentrate 19% of vehicle thefts in France, all categories combined (cars, two-wheelers, utility vehicles, construction machinery).
