Investigative journalist Marcin Gutowski said that even written evidence of the inaction of John Paul II in connection with the suspicions of Catholic priests of corrupting minors has been preserved.
Pope John Paul II was aware of the sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests, but concealed it until he became pope. This is stated in the investigation of the journalist Marcin Gutovsky, which was released on the Polish channel TVN24.
According to the investigative journalist, at one time the Pope personally communicated with the victims of pedophile priests, but did nothing to ensure that those responsible for the crimes were punished. Moreover, written evidence of the inaction of John Paul II has been preserved.
In his material, the journalist also cites a direct speech of one of the direct participants in these events. He is called a key witness in the case of the inaction of the Pope
“In the summer of 1973, I personally went to tell Wojtyla (Pope John Paul II, – ed.) about the abuse of the priest of the Krakow diocese, Eugeniusz Surgent. First, Wojtyla wanted to make sure that this was not a bluff, something like that, was it true. And then he asked nowhere about do not report this, so that it does not receive publicity, so that the authorities do not know about it,” said one of the heroes of the journalistic investigation Gutovsky.
John Paul II and pedophile priests: how Poland reacted to the investigation
Note that Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki has already responded to this material.
“There is no evidence of a conscious disregard for violence in the Church by Pope John Paul II, or they are very doubtful,” Morawiecki said.
According to the head of the Polish government, today more than yesterday people need St. John Paul II.
“His opinions, his tips, his authority. For those who are trying to destroy the spiritual monument of the Polish pope can only offer a spiritual wasteland,” said the Prime Minister of Poland.
Recall that in February 2019, the Pope called for listening to the silent cry of children who fell victim to pedophile priests. Pope Francis called pedophile priests “tools of Satan” and compared child molestation to human sacrifice.
Focus also wrote that in May 2018, all 34 bishops of Chile submitted their resignations to Pope Francis in connection with a high-profile scandal involving accusations of clergy in this country of pedophilia.
