The department said that some of those arrested were brought to trial, while the rest were released due to the expiration of their stay in the pre-trial detention center.
Protesters detained in Tbilisi on March 7 and 8 at a rally against the law on “foreign agents” for administrative offenses were released. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
“All persons detained in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses have been released,” the agency said in a statement.
It is also specified that some of the arrested protesters appeared before the court. The Georgian Interior Ministry said it was investigating the “violent events” that took place on March 7-8.
“Investigative measures are being carried out to identify, identify and detain persons involved in the attack on police officers and other violent actions during the ongoing protest in the area of the parliament building,” the ministry concluded.
Recall that on March 7, the Georgian Parliament adopted a draft law “On the transparency of foreign influence”, which actually copies the law of the Russian Federation. The law provides for the inclusion in a special register of organizations and media, 20% of whose income is financed from other countries.
Since March 7, protests against the law on “foreign agents” have continued under the building of the Georgian parliament. The protesters demand from the Georgian parliament to repeal the law on “foreign agents”, as well as to release 66 citizens detained at the rally the day before.
As a result, the ruling Georgian Dream party and the Power of the People public movement announced that they had withdrawn the scandalous bill.
At the same time, Ani Tsitlidze, a member of the opposition United National Movement party, noted that this statement is not true, since such a procedure is contrary to the rules of parliament.
