The Petr Vovchuk case: what is known about it
Since March 2017, the suspect has been wanted and, after being detained, he still tried to avoid punishment and applied for asylum in Lithuania, according to NABU, but was refused.
After the extradition decision was made, the former official attempted to appeal because of his safety, as the war continues in Ukraine. After four years of legal proceedings, he was nevertheless taken to Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the representative of the international grain trader, together with the former officials of the SFGCU, including the ex-chairman of the board, were responsible for organizing the corruption scheme.
“The grain owned by the state-owned company was delivered to Saudi Arabia due to a number of economic entities. The supply was carried out on the terms of cash on delivery, which did not comply with the established market rules. As a result, the SFGCU did not receive funds, having suffered losses in the amount of more than 60 million US dollars,” — NABU said in a statement.
