In Russian and Western films, the characters have done just that more than once.
For more than 30 years, foreign cars and about 20 years of domestic cars have been supplied with immobilizers. This device reads the electronic code of the tag located in the ignition key, and if the value is correct, the engine is allowed to start.
However, until recently, heroes or villains in action movies famously stole cars by shorting a couple of wires torn from the ignition with meat. No one pays attention to reading the code.
And on all cars for more than half a century, mechanical locks have been installed that block the steering shaft. Yes, they can be opened in several ways: turn the larva with a screwdriver, remove the lock, break the lock by force. But you need a tool, time and, in the latter case, remarkable physical strength.
