Today the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the clergyman Tarasius, Bishop of Constantinople.
For 22 years he wisely ruled the Church, led a severe ascetic life. The bishop spent all his property on charitable deeds, fed the poor, helped the weak. People called this day Taras the Sleepless. It was believed that today it is impossible to sleep until sunset, so as not to fall under the influence of evil spirits.
