In the spring of 2023, the Tank 500 frame off-road vehicle will be sold in Russia, comparable in size to the popular Toyota Land Cruiser 300. Preliminary prices: 5,000,000 – 6,000,000 million rubles.
GWM Tank is a new Chinese brand in the Russian market specializing in frame SUVs (it is a subsidiary of the Great Wall concern). The lineup consists of two vehicles, the now available Tank 300 (Toyota Fortuner competitor) and the upcoming Tank 500.
Tank 500 interior
Under the hood of the Tank 500 is a V6 3.0 petrol biturbo engine, in the Russian specification producing 299 hp and 500 Hm (in China – 354 hp) and a nine-speed “automatic”.
By design, the Tank 500 is a frame SUV with spring suspension (solid axle at the rear and double wishbones at the front). Four-wheel drive is implemented using an electromagnetic clutch for connecting the front wheels, there are also two differential locks (front and rear axles) and a reduction gear.

The Chinese car brand Tank, owned by Great Wall Motors and representing an extensive line of frame SUVs, is coming to Russia.
The brand has already appeared in the Rospatent database, where it is listed as “GWM Tank”. It is noteworthy that Russia will become only the second official export market for such vehicles after Saudi Arabia, and one of the debut models will be the luxurious premium off-road Tank 500 2023, capable of standing on a par with the familiar to Russian motorists and, without exaggeration, the legendary Land Cruiser 300.
Like other related models, the Chinese GWM Tank 500 2023 is based on a classic ladder-type frame, on which an all-metal body is mounted.
Behind such a machine is a continuous axle, and all-wheel drive is implemented through an electromagnetic clutch that transmits traction to the front axle.
In the “base” there is a “lower” and locking cross-axle differentials, and the clearance is a decent 224 mm. Confirming the excellent off-road qualities of its “five hundred”, the manufacturer additionally indicates that it is not problematic for the car to overcome 0.8-meter fords.
External design
In profile, the car strongly resembles the already mentioned Toyota Land Cruiser 300, but the design of the front end in its style turned out to be closer to the “Americans”.
A huge protruding chrome grille with a large brand emblem looks quite brutal, and in combination with the same sparkling rims, the SUV looks expensive. However, the model assumes different decor options, including a “status” two-tone body color, and in the Sport version, a spare wheel case appears on the rear swing door.
Salon
The interior trim of the 2023 Chinese SUV GWM Tank 500 emphasizes the high level of the model: a combination of natural leather, wood, aluminum inserts and high-quality plastic is found here, and large ergonomic seats in front are equipped with heating and ventilation systems.
By the way, the original five-seat layout can be replaced with a seven-seat one – for an extra charge, a two-seat “gallery” will appear in the cabin. The driver is offered a standard set of modern controls: a large multifunction steering wheel, virtual “instruments” (12.3”), widescreen multimedia (14.6”), a panel with “piano” keys and a clock face, as well as a wide central superstructure with a huge armrest and a block strewn with buttons transmission control.
Technical stuffing and characteristics
In Russia, the GWM Tank 500 2023 will be supplied with a 3.0-liter V-shaped biturbo six. It will not, as in China, have the performance of a “mild” hybrid, so it will be relieved of a 48V starter-generator, and the power will be lower – 299 hp. With. instead of 354’s.
At the same time, the unit will retain its traction of 500 Nm, and the classic 9-speed automatic transmission will perform the role of a “gearbox” here.
Prices and start of sales
In China, the 500th Tank is sold in a large number of versions: Sports Edition, Business Edition, Custom Edition, Black Warrior, etc. The initial two-row modifications are offered there at a price of 335,000 yuan (2.7 million rubles), but in Russia prices will obviously be somewhat different. Estimated prices in Russia will start from 5,000,000 rubles.
