The commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine acknowledged that Russian soldiers are now well trained, which is why the soldiers of the Defense Forces have to spend more resources to deter the assault on the invaders.
Ukraine is holding the military for the start of the spring offensive and is preparing them as part of the newly formed assault brigades. Kyiv is also forming battalions around new combat vehicles and tanks supplied by Western countries. This was reported by The Washington Post in a March 13 article.
In addition, the commander of the Ground Forces, Colonel-General Alexander Syrsky, told reporters in an interview that Ukraine needs to gain time to prepare reserves. We are talking about the Ukrainian military, who are trained abroad on Western weapons.
According to him, the Ukrainian military must withstand the attack of Russian troops in order to properly prepare a new batch of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“We know that we must withstand this attack in order to properly prepare the reserves that will take part in future actions. … Some are defending, others are preparing,” Syrsky said.
The representative of the command said that Ukraine needs to win the war with Russia before the end of the year. He noted that this is realistic if Kyiv receives all the promised assistance from the West.
The Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also said that Russian soldiers are now well trained. As a result, the Ukrainian military is spending more resources to fight the invaders.
“We must live and fight in these realities. Of course, this is problematic for us … This forces us to be more accurate in shooting, more detailed in reconnaissance, more careful in choosing positions and more detailed in organizing interaction between parts. There is no other way,” he said.
Recall that in the same article, WP journalists wrote that the state of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has deteriorated significantly: there is a shortage of ammunition, there are no qualified fighters, and pessimism among the military and government officials is growing. At the same time, the American authorities believe that Kyiv is preparing troops for the upcoming counteroffensive separately and deliberately keeping them from the current battles.
On March 11, Alexander Syrsky said that the defense of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region is necessary for a successful counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, Russian troops are losing a lot of resources in the area, while Ukraine is building up forces.
