Last year, only 18% of candidates for drivers passed the driving test the first time. According to the traffic police, this is a little over 200 thousand people. Moreover, 35% passed the theoretical part of the exam on the first try, and 12% passed the practical part.
In total, in 2022, 1.1 million people who were trained in driving schools received a driver’s license.

If compared with the figures for 2021, then 1.2 million driver’s licenses were issued, and 241,000 people, or 20% of all driver candidates, were able to pass the exam on the first try.
As Vladimir Kuzin, deputy head of the Main Directorate of Road Traffic Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, noted, the quality of training in driving schools in Russia is at an insufficient level, the number of attempts to pass the exam is growing, and the number of certificates issued is decreasing.
In 2023, the conditions for obtaining a driver’s license have changed, significant additions have been made to them.
