Contrary to popular belief, nothing bad will happen, assures Za Rulem expert Mikhail Kolodochkin.
But there is no point in this either: when the temperature overboard drops and approaches zero, the air conditioning compressors stop working. The compressed refrigerant, when heated, must turn into a gas and thus lower its temperature. But if it’s winter outside, there won’t be enough heat for such a transformation.
The process is controlled by special sensors, and when it gets cold, the control system simply will not allow the air conditioning compressor to turn on. In this case, the command indicator may still light up.
Although from time to time it is still desirable to turn on the air conditioner – for example, for a couple of minutes when entering a heated parking lot. When idle, there is no uniform distribution of the oil film over the working surfaces, and therefore, after a long period of inactivity, the mechanism will operate in dry friction mode. This will significantly reduce its resource, the specialist notes.
