The amount was calculated based on the minimum wage for the job and the time the couple had been married.
According to documents, a court in Spain has sentenced a businessman to pay his ex-wife €204,000 for 25 years of unpaid housework. The Mirror writes about it.
Judge Laura Ruiz Alaminos, during a court hearing in Vélez-Málaga in southern Spain, found that Ivana Moral, who shares two daughters with her ex-husband, was fully responsible for maintaining their home while the couple were married from June 1995 to December 2020.
In this regard, the judge calculated the payment based on the minimum monthly professional wage for a quarter of a century of married life.
According to The Local, the couple’s marriage was governed by a property-sharing regime that stipulated that whatever each side earned belonged to them alone. This means that in this case, the wife would not have access to the wealth accumulated during the years of marriage.
After the couple got married, Moral reportedly devoted herself “mostly to housework, which meant taking care of the house, the family and everything that came with it,” the ruling said.
As a result, the court calculated the amount of compensation that Moral claimed using the minimum monthly wage, which was recently raised to 1,080 euros.
According to the ruling, the man must also pay his ex-wife a pension of 500 euros per month, as well as 400 and 600 euros for his two daughters, now 20 and 14 years old.
“Obviously it was a case of abuse that was completely ruled out financially (by my ex-husband), and after my marriage ended, there was nothing left. I supported my husband at work and in the family, like a mother and father. “I was never given access to his financial affairs. Everything was in his name. The reason I decided to speak to the media is because I wanted women to know that we can qualify for housework when there is an agreement on the division of property,” Moral said.
