In the spring of 2023, the new generation Haval H5 will debut in China, and now the first official images, details and specifications have appeared on the Web.
The new Haval H5 (internal factory index P04) is built on the basis of a large Great Wall King Kong Poer pickup truck with which the chassis, powertrains, front end and even the interior (front panel) are unified.
In terms of dimensions, the Haval H5 2023 (length – 5190 mm, width – 1905 mm, wheelbase – 3140 mm) is comparable to the Nissan Patrol (or Infiniti QX80), i.e. it is a fairly large car, larger than the popular Toyota Land Cruiser 300.
It is expected that under the hood of the novelty there will be a two-liter turbodiesel – 166 hp or a gasoline turbo unit – 2.0 (224 hp). Paired with which are equipped with an 8-speed “automatic” or a six-speed “mechanics”. Transmission with hard-wired all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive.
In China, sales of the new generation Haval H5 should begin in the first quarter of 2023, and an SUV may also appear in Russia, because the previous generation was officially sold here.

Review
Great Wall first hinted at the development of a large SUV based on the King Kong Poer frame pickup truck in 2021.
In December 2022, photos of this car appeared on the Web, and at the same time it became known that it would be the flagship model of the Haval brand, which has an internal P04 index.
But with the recent update of the catalog of the Chinese Ministry of Industry, it became clear that the novelty will be called the Haval H5, i.e., it will replace the mid-size SUV, which will actually move to another class.
This transition will be determined, first of all, by the new dimensions of the car: thanks to the frame taken from King Kong Poer, the novelty will have 3140 mm between the axles, and the body length will reach 5190 mm.
This is more than half a meter more than the previous Haval H5. But the Chinese did not make a new model out of the SUV, preferring, just in case, along with the H5 to patent additional names indicating the increased length – H5 Max and H5 L.
When looking at the exterior of the enlarged “five”, some similarity of the car with the donor pickup remains noticeable. Individual elements of the body are reminiscent of Haoyue and Changan CS95, and specialists already call too long overhangs, which will reduce the off-road qualities of the car, as an absentee minus of this SUV.

And yet, outwardly, the car looks like a brutal all-terrain vehicle, which, for sure, will be very spacious inside. Due to the large dimensions, the third row of seats will definitely suit him, although so far the developers have patented a two-row 5-seater version. This was probably done in order not to enter the “territory” of the flagship H9.
Technical stuffing and characteristics
Technically, the new Haval H5 will be identical to its sister pickup: under the hood will be a 2.0-liter GW4C20B gasoline unit, which will have to work with an automatic “box” or a 6-speed “mechanics”. At the same time, the engine power will increase from 190 to 224 “horses”. An alternative option is a GW4D20M diesel engine with 166 hp. With. The drive will be rear or hard-wired full.
Prices and start of sales
In expensive versions of the SUV, thresholds, cameras, a sunroof and other additional equipment are announced. The premiere of new items should take place this spring, and at the same time, information about trim levels and prices will be disclosed. For reference, a King Kong pickup truck in China is currently offered at a price of 100-130 thousand yuan (1.1-1.4 million rubles).
