Payment for free sections of the road, fake accidents under new schemes and not only that. Be carefull!
Scheme 1. Auto-setting with imperceptible braking
Having noticed a potential victim moving behind him on the road, the auto-substituter makes a sharp braking, but not with the pedal, but with the parking brake. In this case, the brake lights do not light up. The driver behind does not have time to react and crashes into the intruder’s car. Most often it is an expensive foreign car.
Basically, auto-substituters practice inconspicuous braking on sections of roads with a speed limit of 40 km / h. In such places, cars move at a short distance and at low speed. The latter circumstance allows avoiding casualties in a collision. Remember that if harm is caused to health, then calling the traffic police is mandatory.
Drivers of inexpensive cars are chosen as victims. Well, after an accident, scammers act according to the standard scheme – they insist on the immediate payment of monetary compensation without calling the traffic police.
What to do?
Do not succumb to the persuasion of scammers and do not leave the scene of an accident. It is necessary to fix the details of the accident on the photo from four sides and report the incident by calling 112.
Against intruders, you can fight well with their own methods. If you suspect a setup after an accident, take a picture of the number plate of the fake car and the scammers themselves. If you start calling the traffic police, in most cases, scammers lag behind their victims.
Scheme 2. Payment for travel on a free road
This new scheme takes on a large scale during the holidays, when the flow of cars is directed to the place of rest. Many car owners do not even notice that they have entered the toll highway zone. Internet scammers are in a hurry to take advantage of this. They create phishing sites that are like two drops of water similar to the real sites of firms that provide paid services. Links to fake sites are then sent to motorists.
According to Avtodor, it is very easy to fall for this trick. In the link to the fake site, one letter changes, and at a glance it becomes impossible to distinguish the site of a real company from a fake one. In addition, the phishing site is designed in strict accordance with the site of the company serving the toll roads.
The realism of the situation is added by the fact that toll road operators actually send SMS notifications about the facts of debt.
How not to become a victim?
Don’t be in a hurry to pay. You should check the fact of the debt by finding the official page of the organization on the Web. It will not be superfluous to check the debts on the license plate of the vehicle.
Scheme 3. “Triangle” – a scam when selling a car
According to this scheme, both the seller and the buyer of the car are deceived. To deceive, the scammer finds a real ad for the sale of a car, copies it and places it on other sites, but with a lower price for the car.
Then the fraudster starts negotiating with the buyer, posing as a real seller, and with the owner of the car – as an interested buyer. Such scammers are also called intermediary-“gasket”. Further, the “laying” calls up the buyer, makes an appointment and says that he cannot show the car himself and his friend will come instead of him. He is ready to receive the payment for the purchase on a bank card.
The intermediary-“gasket” tells the real seller that his representative will come to buy the car, who will sign all the documents. The supposedly real buyer undertakes to transfer the payment to the seller on the card. As a result, at the time of signing the purchase and sale agreement, the money for the car is credited to the card of the intermediary-“gasket”, which disappears with the amount received.
How to be?
Pay for the purchase only with the owner of the car, whose data is entered in the Title. Personally, check with him which card to transfer money for buying a car.
A sure sign of a fake car accident
According to the vice-president of the National Automobile Union, Anton Shaparin, auto-substitution schemes have not changed for years.
You can identify scammers by one sure sign: they categorically refuse to call traffic police officers to the scene of the accident and do their best to solve the problem on the spot.
“They can use different tactics, methods and strategies, but they will all say that we don’t call the police, OSAGO is not an option, we won’t go to court, we’ll figure it out now and here. The main task of swindlers is to extract cash from the driver for a fake accident, ”the auto expert warned.
Therefore, the expert recommends that in the event of an accident, immediately call the traffic police to the scene and always have a current CMTPL policy with you.
