According to the American president, in addition to military assistance, Germany provided the citizens of Ukraine with deep moral support.
On Friday, March 3, United States President Joe Biden held a meeting at the White House with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during which he noted that the German leader’s support for Ukraine in the war against Russia “was of great importance.” CNN writes about it.
“You’ve stepped up and provided critical military support, and you know, I would say that beyond your military support, the moral support you’ve given the Ukrainians has been profound,” Biden said.
The US President pointed out that Scholz led Germany to “historic changes” by increasing defense funding and also refusing to buy energy resources from the Russian Federation.
According to Biden, the alliance between the United States and Germany makes the North Atlantic Alliance stronger and more combat-ready.
In turn, Scholz assured that his country would provide support to Ukraine as much as needed. He also added that the transatlantic partnership is now in “very good shape.”
“It is very important that we acted together, that we organized in step, and that we made possible the necessary support for Ukraine throughout this time,” the chancellor said, referring to the full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The fact that Olaf Scholz visited the United States on March 3 to meet with Joe Biden was previously reported by Reuters. Journalists wrote that the leaders of the two countries will discuss additional support for Ukraine, as well as possible military assistance to the Russian Federation from China.
Recall that on March 2, Olaf Scholz said that Kyiv would receive security guarantees from the West after the end of the war with the Russian Federation. The chancellor noted that negotiations on this topic are already underway.
Scholz also promised that in the coming weeks, a new batch of Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery mounts and IRIS-T air defense systems will enter service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He stressed that the German government would not take “frivolous decisions” regarding military supplies.
