The press service of the SBU reported that the clergyman handed over the accommodation and data of military personnel. Law enforcement officers found pro-Russian books in the temple.
The Security Service of Ukraine exposed a Russian agent, who turned out to be the rector of one of the temples of the UOC (MP) in the Shostka district of the Sumy region. This became known from the post of the press service of the SBU in social networks.
Law enforcement officers said that the attacker collected data on the deployment of the Defense Forces in the region, and also tried to determine the locations of command posts and warehouses with artillery weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. To do this, the rector of the temple traveled around the border area and filmed Ukrainian objects. In addition, he collected information about employees of local authorities and law enforcement agencies.
“Intelligence information was needed by the invaders to carry out targeted missile and massive artillery strikes on the region, as well as to carry out sabotage attacks,” the service explained.
Law enforcers caught the criminal red-handed: when he tried to give the Russians data on employees of the military administrations of the Sumy region.
“According to the investigation, the archpriest was recruited by a staff member of the FSB department for the Bryansk region in September last year. He came to the attention of the Russian special services because of his pro-Kremlin views, repeatedly made public among those around him,” the SBU said.
Officials searched the temple. There they found mobile phones, through anonymous messengers in which the man corresponded with the FSB. In addition, pro-Russian literature was found during the searches.
The priest is suspected of high treason, he is now in custody.
Recall that on March 3, the cyber police exposed a criminal group that took loans for the missing and captured defenders of Ukraine. Malefactors through mobile numbers got access to online banking and used cards of fighters for earnings. The organizer of the group has been charged with fraud and faces up to 8 years in prison.
Earlier on March 2, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian saboteur in Rivne. The invader wanted to blow up the local railroad. The press service of the SBU reported that the attacker entered Ukraine with a European passport and watched the movement of trains in the Rivne region.
