The exhibition “First Motors of Russia” will open on March 3 at VDNKh, and on weekends you can go there with the whole family.
The first “self-propelled carriage” arrived in Russia from abroad in 1894, and at first there were very few of them. However, our country sought to keep up with foreign powers in the pace of introduction of cars, and by the beginning of the 20th century, there were already 12,000 units in the fleet of imperial Russia.

In Russia, not only cars of all brands known at that time were imported, but they also produced their own. The car companies of Yakovlev, Lessner, Leitner, Duks and others were engaged in this. The Russian-Baltic Carriage Works produced the famous Russo-Balts, and the Russian Automobile Plant of Ivan Puzyrev produced cars under the name of its founder.
All this can be seen in pavilion No. 54 of the Special Purpose Garage Museum of the FSO of Russia. The historical interiors feature unique exhibits from the storerooms of the Polytechnic Museum.
The center of gravity of the exhibition will be the domestic “Russo-Balt” – the only surviving passenger car of this brand in the world.

Here you can also see outlandish vehicles with a century of history – the three-wheeled German Phenomobile, the French De Dion-Bouton, in which passengers sat in front of the driver and facing him. There will also be a British City and Suburban electric car, made especially for the Russian Empress Maria Feodorovna.
The exhibition will run until October 28, 2023.
