It is more than certain that cars like the Toyota GR 86 will fall into the hands of auto tuners. Original parts are therefore not always useful, especially if they are expensive, since they will be quickly replaced by preparation workshops by more efficient components. This makes the choice of the top model unnecessary, if the goal of the buyer of the car is to modify it..
It is in this perspective that Toyota is marketing an ultra basic version of its little sports car. This is the RC and as you can see this version of the GR 86 is fitted with sheet metal rims. How stripped down is this model? Let’s take a closer look.
Apart from the rims, the RC model is almost indistinguishable from the rest of the lineup. Even the base model is equipped with Bi-LED headlights and mirror caps in gloss black. It can even be ordered with a metallic paint if the buyer wishes.

The interior of the GR 86 RC is not too stripped down either. Granted, there’s a blank plaque where the audio system is supposed to be, but this interior is pretty close to the top trim levels. On the other hand, it does not benefit from the leather seats or the two-tone theme. We doubt buyers are embarrassed by this. However, there is automatic air conditioning.
Generally, it is a basic model which is surprisingly well equipped. Toyota has removed or replaced the elements that will surely be modified by the manufacturers of parts, and kept the elements of comfort. Note that this GR86 does not seem to have cruise control. With a base price of 2,799,000 yen (including tax), the Toyota GR86 RC costs around € 21,300 at the current exchange rate. The Toyota GR 86 will arrive in France, but its price has not yet been revealed.
