One of the interesting premieres of the Shanghai International Motor Show in 2021 was a remake of “Volkswagen Beetle” from the Great Wall Motor (GWM) concern. GWM has no relations with the Volkswagen concern, the Chinese decided to interpret the well-known image of a classic small car in their own way. the ORA brand, under which GWM manufactures only clean electric vehicles.
According to speedme.ru, the new product was named ORA Retrocat. The design unmistakably reads the motives of the old Volkswagen Kafer – the characteristic sloping nose, rear, voluminous fenders and even such a rarity today as chrome bumpers. However, the brainchild of the Great Wall has a four-door, not a two-door body, as was the original Volkswagen. Inside, the digital instrument cluster, elongated horizontal media screen and lavish polished aluminum trim stand out.
ORA Retrocat specifications have not been specified. It is only known that it is driven by an electric motor. The serial version of the car may appear in 2022-2023.
Recall that the original Volkswagen Kafer (Beetle) was produced from 1946 to 2003. From 1997 to 2010 VW produced the subcompact New Beetle with a design inspired by the classic model. From 2011 to 2019, they produced the Beetle, the second generation of the “new Beetle”. Since 2019, there are no such cars in the VW range.
