Toyota has started selling the Hilux Champ pickup truck in Thailand, ranging from $13,200 to $16,600. Under this name, the production version of the IMV 0 concept, presented in October this year at the Japan Mobility Show, entered the market. It’s essentially a platform that can be turned into a food truck, ambulance, or other uses. Toyota showed some of these options at the Tokyo Auto Show.
According to the chief engineer of the IMV project, the Hilux Champ leaves the production line “70% complete.” The remaining 30% must be fulfilled by the buyer. This is what explains such a low price tag. In addition, the automaker was able to reduce costs in the pickup truck supply chain.
The design of the Hilux Champ is closer to a chassis cab for commercial purposes. It has bolt holes on the back that can be used to attach over 100 accessories. The final cost of the pickup will depend on the equipment installed on the platform.
The Hilux Champ is available in short and long wheelbase in eight different trim levels. The engine range consists of 2.0- and 2.7-liter petrol and 2.4-liter diesel engines. The transmission is five-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Maximum load capacity – 998 kg.
