An analysis of the average prices of sold cars shows that certain brands and models are more advantageous abroad than on the domestic market. This applies to vehicles in all segments, including luxury cars from brands such as BMW or Audi, as well as popular models often sold in Slovakia. This phenomenon is the result of various factors such as differences in the tax burden, registration fees or specific market preferences.

Significant price differences between identical models in different countries are influenced by various factors. For example, some European countries have introduced tax obligations for vehicles with higher emissions in an attempt to reduce emissions. This is particularly noticeable in Sweden, where vehicles with larger engine capacities, especially diesel ones, face higher road charges. Other reasons for price differences include imbalances between supply and demand, different economic situations within the EU and currency fluctuations.
Jakub Šulta, founder of Carvago.com, a system that monitors almost 7 million European ads daily, said: “Price differences in Europe are increasing and our customers are actively benefiting from them. Family diesel cars from Sweden are particularly popular as they are better equipped and more affordable due to the high tax burden of this type of engine in the local market.”

Important advice for Slovak customers when importing used cars from abroad is a thorough technical inspection of the vehicle, preferably by an independent technician. Carvago focuses on multi-step pre-purchase checks of vehicles, using tools such as Cebia, insurance databases and stolen vehicle databases. Unlike individual importers, Carvago offers its customers a guarantee from a German company that includes full responsibility for the condition of the recommended vehicles.
