The regional daily l’Est Républicain obtained photos of the car that the emergency services pulled out of the canal in the town of Montbéliard. There would probably be nothing special about that, such accidents do happen, but instead of a normal vehicle, the rescuers and firefighters fished out of the water only a minimally camouflaged test prototype of the new Lancia Ypsilon.
It seems that there were no casualties in the crash, so basically it went well, but the Stellantis concern will certainly not be happy about it. From the ongoing investigation by l’Est Républicain, it appears that the test mule was stolen from the Sochaux factory site, only about three kilometers away as the crow flies, but it is not clear how the thieves managed to get to the undoubtedly otherwise guarded prototype.
