According to journalists, the Americans insist on a conservative strategy aimed at retaining territory. However, the Ukrainian command wants to go on the attack.
The American and Ukrainian militaries are looking for a new strategy to confront the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Thus, the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2023 did not bring the desired results. The New York Times writes about this.
According to journalists, the United States has already stepped up its military consultations for Ukraine. An American general will be sent to Kyiv to see what is happening “on the ground.”
U.S. and Ukrainian military officials say they hope to work out the details of the new strategy next month during a series of war games planned for Wiesbaden, Germany.
The publication writes that the Americans insist on a conservative strategy aimed at retaining the territory that Ukraine has. Thus, the Armed Forces of Ukraine must dig in and increase their reserves of forces throughout the year. The goal will be to create such a threat that Russia could consider participating in meaningful negotiations late next year or as early as 2025.
However, the Ukrainian command reportedly wants to launch an attack, either on the ground or launch a large number of strikes with long-range missiles. Thus, Ukrainian officials are studying strategies based on the successful deep strikes in Crimea last fall. They are looking for creative ways to keep Russia off balance through attacks on weapons factories, weapons depots and ammunition trains, as well as to win symbolic victories.
According to American sources, politicians in Ukraine do not realize how unstable the issue of further US funding is. Thus, the Ukrainians are asking for millions of artillery shells from Western stocks that do not exist.
However, senior American officials have reportedly said that they are open to some new ideas from Ukraine. The Pentagon also decided to send Lieutenant General Antonio Aguto Jr., who commands support for Ukraine from a base in Germany, to Kyiv. HE will work more with the country’s military leadership to improve the recommendations that the United States offers.
Previously, the media wrote that Europe was practically defenseless against Russia. According to American journalists, the war in Ukraine actually demonstrated the depth of the problem with the armed forces of European countries and NATO.
