Today you can’t eat meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, and also whistle in the house.
What happened on this day?
Today the Orthodox Church honors the memory Saint Stephen. He abandoned secular life, lived in the desert, studied the Word of God. People came to him from everywhere. But persecution of Christians began, Stephen was thrown into prison. They tried to force him to renounce the Lord, but he refused. Then the idolaters exiled him to an island, where many companions followed him. He built a monastery there and lived to a ripe old age.
