Muscovy brought at least 16,000 children out of Ukraine. Therefore, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin: what does this actually mean?
The 123 participating countries are required to arrest Vladimir Putin as soon as he enters their territory. By the way, the United States, China and Russia are not among the states where the jurisdiction of the ICC extends. This is the first step towards the international persecution of the dictator.
The decision also has political implications. The status of an odious ruler is also accompanied by the official qualification “criminal”. The leaders of the world will now consider whether to sit down with him at the same negotiating table.
Ukraine insists on a different court format – the organization of a special tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
First, the ICC does not have jurisdiction to try for crimes of aggression. Secondly, The Hague does not have the power to convict in absentia. The Tribunal can obtain such rights.
All our Western partners will participate in the creation of the international tribunal, which means that the weight of decisions will be more tangible.
Now more than 30 countries of the world are forming the logic of creating such a special tribunal. Germany and France traditionally have a “dissenting opinion”.
Now for the juicy part: the ICC warrant frustrates any plans the Kremlin has to hold on to power “after the war.”
The Fuhrer has already become a defendant in the international investigation and received the status of a suspect. The “peace agreement” with Ukraine (if suddenly someone in Kyiv would decide to conclude such a thing) or the forced withdrawal of troops to the borders of 1991 will not change his status – he is a defendant in The Hague.
The ICC warrant actually creates a need for a reset of power in Muscovy, which has found itself in a criminal trap. For example, according to the NYT, the Russians will not be able to achieve the lifting of international sanctions without the execution of orders from the Hague court. That is, without issuing a bunker.
By the way, the Fuhrer fell into the expressive company of defendants in The Hague:
Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic. Sudanese President Omar Bashir is awaiting extradition. Liberian President Charles Taylor. Jean-Pierre Bemba, former Vice President of Congo. Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The bunker commander-in-chief constantly complained about the lack of attention and underestimation of the role and importance of Muscovy in the world. Now it has. And don’t give thanks.
