South America is shaking: strong tremors have affected Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. The rubble is being cleared and the search for victims continues.
Ecuador hit by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake. This is reported by the website of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.
According to the seismological center, tremors occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. The focus of the disaster is at a depth of about 80 km.
It is known that the epicenter of the tremors was 17 km southwest of the city of Naranjal, whose population, according to the 2001 census, was more than 53 thousand people. The city communicates with Guayaquil, the second largest city in Ecuador, and Machala.
