Tesla customers believe the automaker is cashing in on them by servicing electric vehicles. Electric cars can only be repaired by the company or a network of approved service centers.
Tesla is being sued in a class-action lawsuit over its monopoly strategy for repairing electric vehicles. This was reported on the Bloomberg portal.
Tesla electric car owners in California said they had to pay high prices and wait too long for their cars to be repaired due to the manufacturer’s monopolization of parts and maintenance services. In some cases, body repairs took several months.
There have been many lawsuits filed in federal court in San Francisco by Tesla customers. They argue that owners of traditional-powered vehicles have several options for maintenance and repair, while the electric car manufacturer does not provide them with such an opportunity.
Currently, Tesla electric vehicles can only be serviced in the company or in a network of approved service centers. At the same time, only original spare parts can be used, which significantly slows down the repair process and makes it more expensive.
In 2022, Tesla reported $6.09 billion in revenue from automotive services, including paid use of Supercharger electric vehicle charging networks. This amount also included insurance services and the sale of goods.
