According to White House spokesman John Kirby, a ceasefire between the parties to the conflict right now would mean another violation of the UN Charter.
The plan to end the war between Russia and Ukraine legitimizes the occupation of Ukrainian territories. This was stated by the coordinator of the White House National Security Council John Kirby, writes Ukrinform.
According to him, the plan, which provides that the parties must cease fire and begin to negotiate, is clearly in the interests of Russia, and also at odds with the principles and the UN Charter.
“Everyone saw the 12-point plan, and it caused a lot of publicity. It calls for a ceasefire,” the White House spokesman said.
He stated that if a ceasefire were to take place right now, it would actually ratify the seizure of Ukrainian territories by Russian occupiers.
“It would essentially recognize Russia’s achievement in all its attempts to seize the territory of a neighboring country by force. In addition, it would allow Russian troops to continue to occupy the territory of sovereign Ukraine,” Kirby said.
He also noted that the Kremlin could take advantage of the pause in order to strengthen its military positions, restore strength for a new offensive.
Recall that China has submitted proposals to end the war in Ukraine. The program proposed by Beijing consists of 12 points. Among them, the cessation of hostilities, the lifting of sanctions, peace negotiations.
On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to China’s proposal. In his opinion, China’s “Peace Plan” cannot be regarded as a document that will help stop the Russian-Ukrainian war in practice.
Also on February 25, US President Joe Biden said that he did not agree with the peace plan for the war in Ukraine, which was proposed by China. He noted that he does not see anything in the proposed plan that would be beneficial to someone other than Russia.
“If Putin applauds this, then what good is he? I’m not joking, I’m dead serious,” Biden said.
Then on March 9, the Nikkei reported that Chinese military experts from the Academy of Military Sciences in Beijing had concluded that Russia’s war against Ukraine would end in the summer of 2023. According to journalists, it was on the basis of analysts’ assessments that Beijing proposed its peaceful plan to end the war.
