One complex suppresses copters and reconnaissance drones within 6 km and increases the survival rate of fighters by 70%.
The Ukrainian company Piranha-Tech presented domestically produced anti-drone guns. The developers revealed the details of the project at a conference in the Ukrinform press center.
The anti-drone complex consists of a gun and a backpack, where additional equipment is located. As demonstrated by Piranha-Tech representatives, the radiation from the gun suppresses the control signals and telemetry of the drone, forcing it to land or return to the take-off point, if the UAV has such a design.
The Speka portal reports that the cost of a gun covering three frequency bands is 480 thousand hryvnia, and for 5 bands – 580 thousand hryvnia. The efficiency of defeating drones is almost 80%.
“The anti-drone gun is a collective weapon. According to statistics, if it is in the unit, then the survival rate of personnel increases by about 70%,” said Yury Momot, First Deputy General Director of Piranha-Tech.
He added that after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, the company was able to quickly move production from Krivoy Rog to Drohobych and set up production for the military. In addition, the engineers set up the first in Ukraine anti-drone system “Closed Sky” in the city.
The system consists of radars, Piranha 20BSP radio jamming stations, anti-drone guns, electronic warfare systems to counter unarmed and attack drones, and a control center that allows you to track threats. The pilot project started in October 2022, and now the technology is being protected by Dorogobych, Truskavets, Strii and Borislav. Closed Skies works well against commercial and reconnaissance drones, but is currently useless against kamikaze drones like the Shahed-136.
The system as a whole detects UAVs at a distance of up to 20 km, accurately locates them at 6 km, and suppresses them at 4 km. Piranha-Tech engineers are trying to expand the Closed Sky coverage to 30 km, but this will require 1.8 million euros. For the army, a separate complex worth UAH 5 million was made, it is designed for a company of soldiers and allows you to close a section of the front within a radius of 6 km. They are handed over to units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Troops and the National Guard.
“The guys who work with these complexes are very grateful, and they say that they have already saved more than one life,” commented Drohobych Mayor Taras Kuchma.
Anti-drone guns in Ukraine are also made by Kvertus. The KVSG-6 complex, actively used by the Ukrainian military, suppresses most of the existing drones.
Serviceman and radio technology specialist Sergei Flash spoke about the dangers of anti-drone guns for the health of soldiers. He noted that the frequencies at which such devices operate can affect the body, especially the brain, if they are used too often.
