In honor of the 95th Academy Awards, Cindy Crawford shared archival photos in the iconic Versace dress.
American supermodel Cindy Crawford, 57, dug through her archives to find two photos from the 1991 Oscars that are memorable for several reasons.
The fact is that for the first time a Versace dress appeared on the red carpet. It was introduced by Crawford at the 63rd Academy Awards.

“1991 at the 63rd #AcademyAwards – in @versace. It was actually the first time a Versace dress was worn on the red carpet,” she wrote in the post.
Lovingly recalling her historic fashion statement 32 years ago, Crawford explained how it all happened. “I walked down their runway in a similar dress, so when I found out I was going to the Oscars, I asked Gianni [Версаче], can he do it in red. He said yes, and the rest is fashion history ❤️.”
The dress she asked him to make was a red evening gown with a deep V-neckline, criss-cross back, and a slit to the thigh.
In one of the photos, you can see how the late designer himself puts the finishing touches. A Versace dress was sold in 1999 at an AIDS Research Foundation charity auction at Christie’s for $12,650.
While she may not have known how important it was for her to make her red carpet debut in a designer outfit, Crawford clearly knew style as the dress she chose was daring yet timeless and variations of it can still be seen today.
Most recently, Crawford celebrated her birthday, and shared with fans a video where she dances in a white dress. She admitted that she likes to celebrate the birthdays of others, but not her own.
Focus also wrote that Cindy Crawford is not shy about showing herself without makeup.
