According to the representative of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy Roman Babiy, invalidated passports will be restored. Approximately 34 thousand Ukrainians have documents with different transliterations.
Foreign passports, the transliteration of surnames in which differs from the ID-card, will not be considered invalid by the Migration Service of Ukraine. Roman Babiy, representative of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy, wrote about this on his Facebook page.
According to him, about 34,000 Ukrainian citizens have passports with different transliterations, which European officials are unhappy with, as some Ukrainians abuse this circumstance to circumvent restrictions on staying abroad and get help for different identity cards.
“And on paper (or in an electronic database) different spelling means not the same person,” explained the representative of the Verkhovna Rada committee.
The problem is proposed to be solved by exhortations. Ukrainians with such documents will be asked to replace them upon expiration.
The fact that the passports will not be canceled was also confirmed by the head of the State Migration Service, Natalya Naumenko.
Previously, the leadership of the State Migration Service stated that the last issued document would be considered valid, and the previous ones would be cancelled. Officials urged citizens to check their internal and international passports and find out if there are any errors in the transliteration of the name and surname.
The differences in writing are due to the fact that in February of this year, the software was updated in the system for issuing biometric passport documents.
According to Natalia Naumenko, the current process of invalidating foreign passports will be stopped, and passports that were previously recognized as such will be restored in the near future.
Earlier, Focus reported that border guards detained a man with a fake passport on a train to Hungary. At the Chop station, a man showed a document of a citizen of Nigeria, which turned out to be fake.
