Nutritionist Irina Astaficheva on her Instagram shares a list of products that are ideally stored when frozen and will be available for later consumption.
According to a nutritionist, almost one-third of all the annual food in Ukrainian homes is thrown away or spoiled before it can be consumed.
So, what products and how can you freeze:
cheese – grate, store in an airtight container. It is convenient to use for pizza; milk (regular and vegetable) – thaw in the refrigerator and mix well; butter should be tightly wrapped in aluminum foil, plastic wrap, or placed in a container or bag for freezing and only then frozen. To thaw it quickly, you can grate it or reheat it in the microwave, or thaw it slowly in the refrigerator; no, eggs are not in their shells. Break them into a bowl and beat until the yolk and egg white are combined. Put the mixture in an airtight container and stick a label with the date and number of eggs used; boiled rice should be frozen as soon as possible after cooking, but be sure to wait until it cools down; mushrooms, broccoli, avocado, spinach, rhubarb, beans, carrots, broccoli – everything can be frozen. Because many vegetables have a high water content, they are best when mashed, sautéed, stewed, or cooked in light vegetable dishes; Tomatoes – Roast before freezing and store in an airtight container. You’ll always have tomatoes ready for tomato sauces; bananas freeze perfectly without their skins; slightly undercooked pasta is best for freezing; mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes – you can freeze both boiled potatoes and mashed potatoes. Let cool completely; chopped chili peppers and herbs. To avoid frostbite, the freezer container must be tightly closed; bread – regardless of whether it is homemade or store bought; cakes, brownies and biscuits; wine can be frozen, like water. This option is especially suitable for varieties of wines that are proposed to be drunk chilled; berries.

Foods that should not be frozen:
jelly and aspic, as gelatin crystallizes at low temperatures and loses its properties; yogurt, yogurt residues are best added to smoothies, when frozen, this product will turn into a heterogeneous mass with milk clots; basil, leek and parsley will lose their color when frozen, such products are best stored in vegetable oil; vegetables and fruits with a high water content, such as cucumbers, watermelon, radishes, etc.; soft and creamy cheeses, mayonnaise and sour cream; sauces based on milk and eggs.
