The German Defense Ministry said that Ukraine will also receive 13 Beaver bridge layers based on Leopard 1 tanks and 500 pistols for special forces soldiers.
Ukraine, as part of a new military aid package from Germany, received two more self-propelled artillery mounts and six thousand ammunition for them. This is stated in the report on the website of the Ministry of Defense of Germany.
The department said that Kyiv will also receive bridge layers and pistols.
The military aid package included:
two Gepard self-propelled guns – now there are 34 of them; 6000 ammunition for self-propelled guns; two border infantry vehicles – now there are 122 of them; six abundant antenna-mast systems – now there are 30 of them; 20 laser designators – now there are forty of them;
In addition, Ukrainian troops will receive:
13 Beaver bridgelayers based on Leopard 1 tanks – 7 units were previously delivered; 500 Heckler & Koch SFP9 (VP9) pistols for special forces soldiers.
What is known about the self-propelled guns Gepard?
Gepard is the latest German anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery mount, which is designed to protect armored columns on the march and stationary objects from attacks from helicopters and aircraft at low and ultra-low altitudes day and night in all weather conditions and in conditions of intense enemy electronic countermeasures.
The self-propelled guns used a modified chassis from the Leopard 1 tank and an artillery unit based on two 35 mm Oerlikon KDA guns.
On March 8, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Ukraine would receive Leopard tanks from Germany and Portugal by the end of March. Combat vehicles will arrive in the country with trained crews, and then they can go to the front.
On March 2, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that Ukraine would receive a new batch of Gepard self-propelled guns and Iris-T air defense systems in the coming weeks. He noted that Germany is working on providing Ukraine with additional ammunition.
