A rare charged hatchback is equipped with a powerful by the standards of the 80s turbocharged engine, installed in the middle. The model is valued among collectors around the world.
A charged 1985 Renault R5 Turbo 2 hatchback was put up for auction at Bring a Trailer. The maximum bid per lot has already exceeded $100,000. Details about the car were reported on the website of the auction house.
In total, about 3200 copies of the Renault R5 Turbo 2 were built. It was the production version of the successful racing model. The auctioned car was imported to the US in 2001 and donated to the Lane Automotive Museum in Tennessee.
The car is painted black with contrasting graphics. It has a complete package for this model, which includes front and rear fog lights, fender flares, as well as air intakes on the side panels.

The car is fitted with 15-inch HRE wheels of different widths. The hatchback is equipped with independent double wishbone suspension with torsion bars at the front and a coil spring at the rear.
Inside, there are high-back bucket seats that were refurbished in 2023. A safety cage is also installed in the cabin to protect the driver and passenger.

Unlike the standard Renault 5, the charged version is rear-engined. She received a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine with 160 hp. and 220 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 203 km/h.

The car traveled 70,000 km in 38 years. It is in excellent condition, but minor defects can be found on the paintwork of the body.
