Since yesterday, more than 87,000 tweets have appeared on the social network dedicated to the captive killed by the invaders, who has become another symbol of the heroic struggle of Ukrainians.
Hashtag Slava Ukraine headed global trends Twitter – less than the essence, the social network published more than 87 thousand tweets dedicated to the Ukrainian prisoner of war, whom the Russian invaders shot after his words “Glory to Ukraine”.
“It is difficult to find any words. The inhuman barbaric face of our enemy is clearly visible to the whole world. The only thing left for us is to wipe the dried tears and continue to work for victory. All together. Rest in peace. Rest in peace. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes !”, – wrote showman and volunteer Serhiy Prytula on his Twitter account.
“Russian soldiers executed a Ukrainian serviceman for shouting ‘glory to Ukraine’. They created another hero,” wrote one of the Twitter users.
Execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war
Recall that the video of the execution by the occupiers of a Ukrainian soldier who was in captivity was published on social networks by blogger and public activist Serhiy Sternenko. On the recording, the defender of Ukraine speaks to the camera “Glory to Ukraine”. In response, an automatic burst is heard, and the prisoner falls to the ground.
Ukraine’s reaction to the execution of a prisoner of war
On the same day, Zelensky reacted to the video. The head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, said that the occupiers will not be able to avoid responsibility for their crimes. He noted that the military of the Russian Armed Forces justify the crimes by the fight against “Nazis”, but in fact they are only an example of “national insignificance.”
Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets sent the video to his foreign colleagues.
“Russia will have to answer for every war crime committed. The execution of a captured Ukrainian soldier is a violation of the Geneva Conventions. This is an exposure of baseness and meanness,” the Ombudsman said.
Also on March 6, the Security Service of Ukraine registered criminal proceedings on the fact of violation of the laws of customs of war.
“Even war has laws. There are norms of international law that the criminal Russian regime systematically neglects. But sooner or later, a crime will be punished. All those involved will be held accountable before the Law,” said Prosecutor General Andrei Kostin.
In his evening video message, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, “We will find the killers.”
Dmitry Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, appealed to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, demanding that an investigation into Russia’s war crime be immediately launched.
