Dmitry Lubinets said that the filmed murder of a prisoner is a violation of the Geneva Conventions and confirmation of another Russian war crime.
The Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets sent a video in which the Russian military opened fire on the captive after his words “Glory to Ukraine” to his foreign colleagues. He announced this on his pages in social networks.
“Russia will have to answer for every war crime committed. The execution of a captured Ukrainian soldier is a violation of the Geneva Conventions. This is an exposure of baseness and meanness,” the Ombudsman said.
Lubinets said that he sent a video of the execution of the Ukrainian defender to international partners and colleagues from around the world. According to him, it is a confirmation of another war crime committed by the Russian invaders.
“When all over the world the words ‘Glory to Ukraine’ inspire respect, respect and pride, the Russians shoot for the Ukrainian slogan… It is very painful to look at what the occupiers are doing to our people. The goal of Ukraine, like the entire democratic world, is to attract the Russian Federation to responsibility,” Lubinets said.
The execution of a Ukrainian for “Glory to Ukraine”: what is already known
A video of the shooting of a Ukrainian soldier who was in captivity by the invaders was published on social networks by blogger and volunteer Serhiy Sternenko. On the recording, the defender of Ukraine speaks the slogan “Glory to Ukraine” to the camera. In response, an automatic burst is heard, and the prisoner falls to the ground.
“Another war crime of the Russians. A Ukrainian soldier was captured. After he said “Glory to Ukraine”, the Russian shot him and filmed it,” Sternenko wrote.
Later, the President’s Office reacted to the video. The head of the Presidential Office, Andrey Yermak, stressed that the Russians will not be able to avoid responsibility for their crimes. According to him, the army men of the Russian Federation justify war crimes by fighting the “Nazis”, but in fact they are only an example of the “national insignificance” of the Russians themselves.
Recall, on March 6, the press service of the National Police reported that the occupiers involved in the shooting of civilian cars in Irpen had been identified. On March 5 and 6, 2022, 9 Ukrainians were killed while trying to evacuate from the city, and 12 more were injured. Law enforcement officers announced suspicions to three Russian military men and identified 20 more, whose involvement is being collected evidence.
Also on March 6, the press service of Energoatom announced that the Russians were planning a retreat from the ZNPP. Russian “nuclear industry specialists” arrived at the station, compiling lists of equipment that the RF army men should “dismantle” and take with them.
