This happened in the Kherson region. Threatening with the use of weapons, the military of the Russian Federation repeatedly raped a 62-year-old woman. Now psychologists are working with her.
This happened in the Kyiv region. The invaders raped the girl and mother, the father was beaten and forced to watch. Currently, the family is also receiving psychological assistance.
Another family in the Kyiv region, mother, daughter and granddaughter, was subjected to violence by the invaders for two weeks. Now she is constantly receiving psychological support.
It happened in Svyatogorsk. The woman was raped by three military men of the Russian Federation. Now she works with a psychologist and even helps other women who have also been abused.
These are just some of the cases of sexual violence committed by Russian invaders that the Office of the Attorney General is investigating. In general, the UCP recorded 171 such facts. Behind these figures are not only women. Among the victims – 39 men and 13 minors, including a boy. We know this because the victims and their loved ones found the strength to testify. How many are suffering in silence, especially in the occupied territories, we do not know.
I spoke about this at the United for Justice international forum. It was attended by First Lady of Latvia Ms Andra Levite, President of the European Parliament Ms Roberta Mecola, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflict Ms Pramila Patten.
This event should become a legal “Ramstein”, which will help unite efforts to bring all those responsible for committing international crimes against Ukraine to justice. The truth is that the victim is never responsible for the crime. Only the performer is responsible.
The attacker, the aggressor, is always to blame, not the victim. Here’s what survivors need to know. They must know that the state is always on their side and all international law, the entire free world is on their side. We must guarantee support and assistance to everyone. But most importantly, we all must guarantee them the most important thing – justice. Punishment for their offenders. But this is necessary not only for the victims, not only for the Ukrainians.
The condemnation of Russian rapes and other war crimes is required as a precedent. So that any potential aggressor, a collective rapist in the world, knows that this will not go unpunished, that it is better not to attack – not even try.
The condemnation of Russian rapists is necessary so that no one else is raped, so that the world becomes a safer and more humane place in which evil is punished.
