An anonymous source from the Defense Alliance claims that even despite the “favorable” ratio of numbers, Ukraine is losing a huge amount of manpower in an attempt to maintain control over the city.
The Russian Federation in the battles for Bakhmut lost 5 times more soldiers than the Ukrainian side. This was reported by an anonymous source from NATO portal CNN.
Five liquidated Russian occupiers account for one dead fighter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area surrounded by battles of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. The source of this information noted that the assessment is reasonable and it is made on NATO intelligence data.
At the same time, even despite such a seemingly favorable ratio, Ukraine continues to suffer significant losses in attempts to defend the city.
The Ukrainian military, as recalled in the publication, has repeatedly stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine inflict colossal losses on the Russian Armed Forces in an attempt to capture Bakhmut. In particular, after a visit to the city, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky, commander of the ground forces of Ukraine, spoke about this.
“Our defenders inflicted significant losses on the enemy, destroyed a large number of vehicles, forced the best Wagner assault units to fight and reduced the offensive potential of the enemy,” he said.
Defense of Bakhmut: what is known
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting of the Headquarters, where the issue of the need to continue to maintain control over the city, despite the likelihood of encirclement, was discussed. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny and Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky said that it is necessary not only to continue the defense, but also to significantly strengthen the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this direction.
On March 6, the NYT portal wrote that despite the threat of encirclement, the Armed Forces of Ukraine nevertheless went on the offensive in Bakhmut. According to the publication, the Defense Forces repulsed Russian troops from the last main highway leading into the city, which allowed the main supply line to be preserved.
On the same day, Major General of the Austrian Armed Forces Bruno Hofbauer said that the Defense Forces are capable of holding Bakhmut for several days and even weeks.
