The woman, who called herself “Trukhanov’s girlfriend”, mistook caring Ukrainian women for visitors, because she was used to hearing exclusively Russian speech in the city. With the help of activists, she admitted her mistake and apologized.
In Odessa, there was a language scandal with a woman who reproached young girls for using the Ukrainian language in everyday life. The video was published by Ukrainian Telegram channels.
There was a verbal skirmish in one of the hotels in the city. The woman furiously convinced the staff that there was no difference between hryvnias and rubles, and in Odessa this currency has always been at all.
“Well, you understand me: rubles, hryvnias are one and the same. We have had rubles all our lives, remember the girls. As I understand it, you newcomers speak Ukrainian all the time,” says the Odessa woman.
This situation brought one of the hotel employees to tears, but the story did not end there. The dispute continued on the topic of the state language and the local resident began to make excuses that it was strange for her to hear Ukrainian in her hometown, because she always spoke Russian and even the war did not change her views.
A client of the hotel called Ukrainian unfashionable, and sometimes even its sound seems to her “collective farm”.
“Girls! Well, what are you doing, changed your shoes? It’s a shame! And why do you meet boys like that and say:” I want you “? Well, this is a collective farm. Our youth don’t talk like that. Your hotel, I will make the most terrible reputation. I’m generally friends with Trukhanov, keep in mind,” she says.

Language scandal in Odessa: what the language ombudsman says
Yaroslava Vitko-Prisyazhnyuk, a representative of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language and a deputy of the Odessa District Council, reacted to this incident.
According to her, according to Article 30 of the Ukrainian legislation, the state language should be used during the service. It can also be any other language that is acceptable to both parties.
“As for the incident itself, I can say that, unfortunately, some of our fellow citizens are still unaware that the Russian language in Ukraine will never again occupy the same positions that it held before February 24 last year. That the Russian language is quite often and the language issue itself was often used by the aggressor in the hybrid war against Ukraine. According to this, the majority of our compatriots react rather sharply when they are asked to address them in Russian…” she said.
Recall, on October 27, the media reported that the associate professor of NAU was fined for using a non-state language. The teacher himself believed that he was the victim of a provocation.
July 9 in one of the shops in Odessa there was a scandal because of the Russian language. A man entered the mobile phone salon, introduced himself as a military man, and began to resent his address in Ukrainian. He abruptly changed his rhetoric when he received a summons to the draft board.
