The American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has tightened crash test rules and published the results of such tests.
If last year 101 models were awarded the highest safety award, this year there are only 48 of them. More than seventy last year’s champions have dropped out of the list.

Audi, Kia and Volvo performed worst of all: 9 models of each brand lost their awards. And the champion is named Toyota. 15 models of Toyota and Lexus brands were included in the list of the best.
This year, side impact rules have been tightened, optical requirements have been tightened, and a pedestrian collision avoidance system is now being tested at night. IIHS promised to continue to make the program more stringent.
