Analysts have pointed out that Russian supporters of the war are unhappy with the Kremlin because of its inability to support their own claims that the Russian Federation is allegedly waging an “existential war” in Ukraine.
Vladimir Putin can use the dissatisfaction of the supporters of the war with the situation with the “Ukrainian DRG” in the Bryansk region to introduce additional security measures on the territory of the Russian Federation. This is discussed in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) dated March 2.
Analysts say Russia is unhappy that the Russian authorities cannot fully support their own rhetoric about Russia waging an “existential war” in Ukraine.
Kremlin speaker Dmitry Peskov did not answer questions about the transition from “special operation” to “war” because of the incident in the Bryansk region. At the same time, the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin pointed out that the Russian Federation had already allowed violations of its “red lines”.
The “head” of the temporarily occupied Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov called on the Russian authorities to strengthen security measures. According to Kadyrov, in order to punish the guilty, it is permissible to attack civilians.
Pro-Kremlin bloggers are demanding that the Kremlin recognize the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Russian Volunteer Corps as terrorist organizations. One of the bloggers also stated that the Russian Volunteer Corps was behind the murder of Daria Dugina and other acts of terror in the Russian Federation.
Among the demands of Russian bloggers were also increased border security, the allocation of additional resources for border units, the creation of an exclusion zone on the border, and the formation of detachments to destroy Ukrainian officials.
The Kremlin does not have the capacity to satisfy all the demands of these ultra-nationalists, and it may take this opportunity to introduce additional security measures in Russia that will benefit Putin without exposing Russia to greater risk or internal unrest, such as a declaration of war. .
“Ukrainian DRG” in the Bryansk region
On February 2, Governor Alexander Bogomaz said that unknown persons had killed a man who was driving a car with a child in the territory of the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation. RosSMI reported that it was a group of “Ukrainian saboteurs”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the penetration of “Ukrainian DRGs” into the village of Sushany in the Bryansk region is a “terrorist act” by the Ukrainian side against citizens of the Russian Federation, committed by “neo-Nazis and their masters.”
The General Staff of Ukraine reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were not involved in the events in the territory of the Bryansk region, and what is happening in the Russian Federation is the resistance of local residents to Putin’s terrorist regime.
Military-political observer Alexander Kovalenko noted that the story of the “Ukrainian DRG” near Bryansk is a provocation that the Kremlin needs in order to motivate Russians to die voluntarily in the war.
