The Prime Minister of Hungary believes that the expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance at the expense of Kyiv could drag his country into the war.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the issue of Ukraine’s accession to NATO will come up sooner or later. However, in his opinion, the Alliance should “think ten thousand times” before expanding to the east. This is reported by the Hungarian edition of Telex.
Orban believes that joining Ukraine to the bloc could drag Hungary into the war.
“Further eastward expansion of NATO should be considered ten thousand times” so that it does not drag Hungary into the war,” he said.
At the same time, the Prime Minister of Hungary noted that this does not apply to the question of Sweden and Finland joining the Alliance.
Recall, on February 27, Viktor Orban said that he was afraid that some country of the European Union would decide to send troops to the territory of Ukraine to fight the Russian Federation. He also supported the peace plan for Ukraine, which was proposed by China a few days ago.
On February 24, the Hungarian prime minister said that Russia could not win the war against Ukraine, but that it, as a nuclear power, could not be driven into a corner. He called for peace talks and noted that the entire Western world supported Ukraine, and Russia might not like it.
Earlier, on January 27, a Hungarian politician compared Ukraine to Afghanistan, calling it “no man’s land.” Orban added that the West cannot win and Putin cannot afford to lose because of the 2024 presidential election.
