However, several manufacturers having chosen not to be present at this edition of the Paris Motor Show 2022, a certain number of new products will not be exhibited at Porte de Versailles in Paris, and in particular the one presented in this article. Yes, there is clearly marked “Volkswagen Group” on the bodywork and not simply “Volkswagen”. We also do not find the famous badge of the German brand present on all the models in its range. Because this concept car named Gen.Travel is not signed by the Wolfsburg brand alone but by the entire Volkswagen group. This is a sketch of what the regional transport system could become in the medium term. When self-driving cars have taken over the roads, the German automotive giant indeed believes that this type of vehicle could “constitute a flexible and sustainable mobility service (MaaS) alternative to short-haul flights. »
In other words, the machine above with its particularly futuristic silhouette would play shuttles and allow less pollution than a regional airliner. But beware, the Gen.Traval can only accommodate a maximum of four people according to the official press release and even offers royal comfort when there are only two people, with an interior finish worthy of limousines and a lot of work on the well-being of passengers. The Volkswagen Group communicates neither the technical characteristics of the car nor its autonomy, but one cannot help wondering whether the idea of moving only two or four people, over journeys of several hundred kilometers in a visibly large vehicle and heavy, really represents a credible tool for the future of sustainable mobility. One thing is certain: thanks to an active electric suspension capable of anticipating all vertical and horizontal movements, passengers will probably not have motion sickness.
Volkswagen shuns the Paris Motor Show and prefers to exhibit the Gen.Travel at the Chantilly Ar & Élégance competition this Sunday, September 24. Over the years, will the French meeting end up attracting as many car manufacturers as those at Villa d’Este or Pebble Beach in the United States? Now that brands are losing interest in classic car shows, it is quite possible.
Caradisiac, partner of the Paris Motor Show
As in 2018, Caradisiac is once again a partner in 2022 of the Mondial de l’Auto which will take place in Paris from October 17 to 23. The Caradisiac editorial team will thus be relocated to its own stand for the duration of the show to analyze, dissect, photograph and film all the new models. New products will be tested at the show from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
How many ? Two differentiated rates between the week and the weekend for adults (16 € and 20 €); for children aged 7 to 17: €8 and €10 (i.e. 50% reduction).
