The young French manufacturer is strengthening its range with the DS 4. A compact built on the common platform of the Stellantis group and compatible with hybridization. Visually, DS once again marks its know-how by endowing its model with a daring line.
The grille is wide, massive and adorned with new 3D patterns. It is surrounded by chrome DS Wings and Full LED headlamps. The rear is undoubtedly the most successful part. It is distinguished by a pronounced fall of the roof, curved fenders, but above all by a worked rear quarter panel with many very marked body lines. It is undoubtedly inside that the revolution takes place. DS has decided to rectify the situation in terms of ergonomics. Now the window controls migrate to the storm doors. The sleek dashboard gives pride of place to beautiful materials.
The DS 4 E-Tense at the Salon Caradisiac 2021
The digital instrumentation measures 7 inches, a size that may seem small but is complemented by a 10-inch heads-up display. 10 inches also for the multimedia system, but the big news comes from the fully configurable software part. This new system turns out to be fluid, a real change from the current one. As with the brand’s other models, particular care has been taken to the interior ambience. Thus, all surfaces likely to be touched are soft, soft and covered with quality materials such as topstitched leather or alcantara.
True to its premium image, this DS 4 will benefit from a very rich equipment similar to the DS 7 and DS 9, including in particular the Smart Touch (from the intermediate level), the head-up display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility. wireless, digital instrumentation, night vision, camera-controlled suspensions, leather or alcantara upholstery, adaptive cruise control with level 2 autonomous driving which now allows overtaking and automatically adapts speed in curves.
4.40 m long, 1.83 m wide and 1.47 m high, the DS 4 offers average rear roominess in the category, especially for legroom. The trunk offers a loading volume of 430 liters for the thermal versions and it will be necessary to ignore 40 liters for the plug-in hybrid versions (390 liters).
Even if the DS 4 was developed from the EMP2 platform which was used in particular for the Peugeot 308 and 3008, 70% of the components are new. On the engine side, on the other hand, it’s classic with a thermal offer that includes gasoline (130 and 180 hp), diesel (130 hp) and a plug-in hybrid engine of 225 hp. The latter is equipped with a 12.4 kW / h battery rechargeable between 1 h 45 and 3 h 30. The autonomy of the DS 4 e-Tense is 50 km, with a single charge, according to the WLTP standard. To date, only the high-end versions have revealed their prices. They start at € 51,500 for the hybrid.

The DS 4 is not yet marketed, so we can not reasonably do that foresight in reliability. And DS is not necessarily the best-off brand on this point. Indeed, the DS 7 Crossback have a lot of electronic problems. The Puretech engines had distribution issues, minus the 1.5 and 2.0 BlueHDI diesels. Many worries are disappearing but it will be necessary to watch the second generation DS 4, which could also suffer from new problems in view of the new high-tech equipment (autonomous driving, night vision, suspension controlled by a camera that scans the road, etc.), as well as the plug-in hybrid engine. The latter does not seem to pose a problem yet on the other models which use it, however.
