BMW Protection has shown a special version of the BMW i7 electric sedan in the xDrive60 version. He was protected from bullets and grenade explosions.
As experts said, this is not just an armored electric car. A self-supporting structure was made especially for it, in which new alloys of armored steel and composites were used. As a result, the BMW i7 became the first electric car in the world to receive VR10 ballistic protection level. It can withstand fire from a 7.62mm sniper rifle and a variety of explosive devices, including drones with grenades and bombs weighing up to 15 kg.
It is noted that each armored door weighs up to 200 kg. To open and close them, specially designed hinges and durable electro-hydraulic mechanisms are used. A special fire-fighting capsule has also been created in the cabin. In the event of smoke, a cylinder in the trunk is activated, which supplies passengers in the cabin with a sufficient amount of oxygen for five minutes. This is quite enough to get to a safe place and leave the cabin.
Bulletproof glass is also installed and there are strobe lights. The car also has a self-healing fuel tank. It can repair damage thanks to a chemical reaction that occurs inside its outer shell. All these modifications led to the fact that the weight of the electric car increased to 1750 kg, which affected the power reserve. Now it is almost half the size and is about 240 km.
