Finding the perfect road or her ideal route for driving, can prove to be quite a difficult task. Many are the areas they have winding roads that offer it absolute pleasure behind the wheel.
Those who love to they “write” kilometers on these roadsa new application, named Curvaturelocates the most exciting routes either in your area or anywhere else in the world.
Behind the project is Adam Franco, software developerwho created the said application, in order to facilitate them driving enthusiasts to find their next destination. He used his knowledge of software and, combined with mathematics, determined the roads with them more and sharper turns.
“What I did is find a method to calculate the radius of curvature on each section of each road and then add the lengths of the curviest sections to get the total distance of the turns. The more winding the road, the greater the distance, explains the Franco.
The program uses its data OpenStreetMap, in order to determine the shape of each road it analyzes. His website Curvature highlights the most winding roads in the world, with corresponding colors on one interactive mapwhich anyone can access by clicking here.
The markers-colors range from yellow to pinkwith yellow indicating them “quite serpentine,” and their pink “very snakey”. Besides, the app shows roads that may not be mapped by the Google Maps or the Apple Mapswhile there is a corresponding marking for those they are not paved.
At first glance, the regions of the earth with the most serpentine routes are those characterized by high altitudes, such as some US statescountries of South America like the Colombiathe Ecuador and Peruwhile also in Asiathe Japan it is almost entirely painted pink. In Europethe road network also has several turns, with the Italythe Francethe Portugal and Hellas to stand out.
More specifically, its areas Greece which seem to be a particularly big challenge for drivers are Continentits western part Mainland Greecethe Peloponnese and most large islands, such as Euboea and the Crete. In Atticathe route starting from Weights and ends in Laurel seems to be ideal for those who love… spinners.
