The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N has already been presented – and within it next two months is expected in our country as well – while the information wants the Koreans to prepare it as well “hot” version of IONIQ 6.
THE performance arm of the brand seems to turn to electromobilitywhich makes their future doubtful (purely) thermal i20 N and i30 N. Yes, according to publication of the Australian edition of Drivethe Hyundai has decided to stop their production in Europeas part of the electrification of its range.
However, this does not mean that N models with thermal engines will be eliminated. In the same publication of the Australian magazine, o Albert Biermannthe brand's executive technical advisor in Europe, paved the way for their stay in the range through the hybrid technology.
“We will create more powerful hybrid powertrains… for other Hyundai Group models. And I see that the possibility is there to have at least one hybrid model Nsuch as for example the i30 Sedan N. The technical possibility exists”said Biermann, who previously served as head of the department Research and Development of the Groupfrom which the i20 N and i30 N.
He clarified that at this time can't be sure on whether a hybrid N model will eventually be built, however he pointed out that the relevant idea arose from the different “penetration” rates of electric cars in many markets worldwide.
“We have to accept that there is a transition stage and this varies depending on the region. See what is happening in europe in this period, so we have to make decisions about this particular market. However, we are a global brand and we take many factors into account. For sure it will take time. Personally I highly recommend Hyundai to offer hybrid options, even for an N model in smaller segments. This will help make for a smoother transition.”.
In fact, he revealed that he promotes “another project for one small hybrid performance concept vehicle. However, it is too early to tell if there is a chance that it will reach the customers».
