The Italian brand reveals a multitude of prototypes with electric and not only technology, giving the stamp of its intentions for the future both on an aesthetic and a product level. Among the five total prototypes presented by Fiat, the completely recognizable but futuristic silhouette of the Panda stands out, which the Italians have “interpreted” both as a city car and as an SUV.
What is worth noting is that the Italian brand promises that corresponding production versions will soon follow, with the first actually making its appearance as early as July 2024, as an ideal “celebration” for the 125-year anniversary of the Italian brand. The rest will follow at a pace, one per year and a horizon of 2027.
The common denominator of the five concept cars, apart from the aesthetic line, is the new platform of the Stellantis group called Smart Car, which already hosts the Citroen e-C3. Like the French model, the five prototypes will not be limited exclusively to pure electric propulsion, including in their options both conventional and hybrid technology versions.
As for the model that will take on the weight of the recommendations and will be revealed next summer, it will be the successor to the Panda in the form of a city car.
In addition, the aggressive pricing policy of the French model in terms of affordability is expected to be followed by Fiat with the new Panda, which in its electric version will be one of the most affordable cars of the EV type. Accordingly, it is expected to apply to its conventional versions with gasoline engines assisted by hybrid technology.
Although the Italians do not reveal the order in which the production versions of the other prototypes will appear, in the relevant teaser the corresponding aesthetic pickup appears as the second one, which apparently, when it appears, will attempt to repeat in Europe the success of the corresponding Fiat category Strada in Latin American markets.
The SUV variant of the Panda which the Italians call the Giga-Panda promises to literally offer another dimension to the perennially popular model, specially designed for large families. The version will be longer in length and will have more adventurous features compared to Mega Panda emphasizing usability but also offering a different image.
The latest model that is introduced to us as a concept car and is part of Fiat's future product plans is a camper van with the same aesthetic and technological starting point which will attempt to introduce the Italian brand into the increasingly popular specific category as evidenced by the increasing number of and more 'alternative' arrivals like the VW ID.Buzz in an occasionally neglected but particularly interesting 'family' of touring vans.
