@Jano_1987Maybe 12% comes out well compared to other countries (I didn't know that and it's a bit surprising), but even so, it's a grossly manipulative number that the media+politicians often use. That number cannot be compared with other EU countries. It could only be compared with states that have the same conditions as we have. Try to figure out for yourself what the difference is.
I found similar statistics somewhere, where the police published the number of checks, how many drivers blew and how many of them blew. That's right, that's how it should always be. But even such a number is manipulative and does not show the truth, because the police chooses the drivers they can blow. An experienced police officer can recognize when the driver does not show any signs of “alcohol” and therefore cannot blow.
Once upon a time, during an accident under the influence of alcohol, which got into the media and Slovak politicians started heating up their soup, it was invented that the police must always, at every traffic control, perform an alcohol test. I don't know what it is until now, or it was quietly canceled. One thing is certain, it never worked and the police did not comply. I say this based on personal experience, when the Slovak police checked me several times, always without an alcohol test. I was interested and that's why I did a mini survey of colleagues and acquaintances, whether they always blow during the inspection. They had the same experience as me, the police don't always blow the whistle, even if they were ordered to! The same was true (perhaps still true) in the Czech Republic. Even there, the driver always has to blow, but he doesn't. Even there we as the truck driver were not allowed to blow.

The police are selective, they don't let everyone blow. Therefore, only the statistics from the traffic event like the one in Moldova, where they check everyone, will show how many % of drivers in Slovakia drive under the influence of alcohol. But it will not be published.
It would be a good idea to ask the police how many drivers they checked. They wrote about the event in SME, but there is nothing there either, only what was published by Topspíd.
