Tayfun ballistic missiles, Sungur and KaraOK man-portable systems, as well as missiles for TRG-230 rocket systems will be put into mass production.
The Turkish Defense Industry Agency (SSB) and the management of Roketsan have signed contracts for the serial production of domestic Tayfun ballistic missiles for the Turkish ground forces. In addition, the series will also launch Sungur MANPADS, KaraOK ATGMs and rockets with a laser guidance system for the TRG-230 MLRS. This was reported by the press service of the Turkish Ministry of Defense.
In this regard, Defense Express observers write that serial production of missile weapons in Turkey will begin as part of the national missile program. Thus, the Turkish army will receive domestic analogues of the GMLRS, PrSM, Stinger and Javelin systems.
Experts note that Tayfun operational-tactical ballistic missiles already have a range of 560 km, but Turkish gunsmiths plan to increase the range to 1000 km. At the same time, the time frame within which the missiles became ready for mass production deserves attention. So the first tests of Tayfun took place only in October 2022, although the development of the complex took quite a long time.
“Even now, the exact characteristics of this missile have not been disclosed. But given its range, and especially the plans for a 1000 km version, the Tayfun is quite comparable to the promising American PrSM missile,” experts say.
MANPADS Sungur
The Sungur man-portable anti-aircraft missile system developed by Roketsan is almost an analogue of the missile for the Stinger MANPADS. The maximum range of the missile is 8 km, height is 4 km, and the target engagement range is from 4 to 4.5 kilometers.
The missile head uses an Imagine Infra-Red (IIR) thermal imaging (infrared) homing system. The complex itself is classified as a fourth generation MANPADS.
ATGM KaraOK
KaraOK is a 3rd generation anti-tank missile. Their main feature is the ability to fire in the “fire and forget” mode. With the help of a homing system, the missile independently moves towards the specified target and hits it. According to the developers, similar to the American FGM-148 Javelin ATGM, KaraOK is capable of attacking a target in the least protected part – the upper projection of armored vehicles.
The complex consists of a disposable launch container with a diameter of 125 mm, a length of 110 cm and a weight of 16 kg. The ammunition is equipped with a two-stage engine and has a tandem warhead. The destruction range reaches 2.5 km.
TRGL-230 missile
TRG-230 is a family of 230 mm diameter guided missiles developed and manufactured by the Turkish company Roketsan. The main component of the system is a self-propelled combat vehicle of the MBRL type on a wheeled chassis. The missile has a mass of 215 kg, while the high-explosive fragmentation warhead weighs 42 and is designed to hit targets at a distance of 20 to 70 km.
Let us recall that Turkey is actively working to create the first domestic configuration of the Atmaca anti-ship missile system, compatible with F-16 fighters. The integration of these missiles will significantly increase the firepower of fighters and enhance their capabilities in the fight against enemy fleets.
